I guess the new fluid doesn't like cold temps.
I notice that too. A little grind or tick going into second and third until I get a few miles from the house. If I just let it idle for a few minutes before leaving, it helps.

I know both of yours are '91's. And mine is a '95. But I noticed that last year when the temps. dropped. Since I put the Royal Purple in, same recommended weight, this year I don't seem to have that problem.

And the other day I had to work my key to get the frozen lock cylinder to release. And, then, spent five minutes wiggling my fingers between the door and body to pull the frozen mass open.

Have to love living in a hole!

I kidnapped @HarryB for a couple days and forced him to help me remove the engine from my Miata. We were lacking some crucial tools to do so, but we disconnected almost everything minus the headers and the PPF.

The engine bay was surprisingly clean and in good condition, even though it was dirty. Can't say the same about the engine, though.

Not a bad outcome for 5 hours of (non-rushed) work, and given that none of us had done it before on a Miata. Could easily had been an "engine out" if we pushed it me thinks. Was great fun though!

By "Non-rushed" were there adult beverages involved?

If you two ever want to visit the U.S. I'll get the removed parts moved from the guest room and computer room for a make-shift Hostel.

Want to pull and plant two Subaru engines? LOL

Finally fit the RevLimiter gauge faces Adam made for me a while back. It was a copy of the RS Products Type Smith gauge face but just a few modifications to personalise it to me. I'm swapping over to a JDM 180km/h cluster. Added the ArtWork DEWA billet needle caps which adds a very nice touch.

Many thanks again to RevLimiter (Adam) for making my gauge faces!

Also, tested the JDM cluster to make sure everything works and I'm pleased to say it does. Not only that, the NA6 oil pressure gauge I fitted works too.

Awesome (as expected from Adam), and the style matches the overall looks of the car really well!

But at least it will also give me the opportunity to install the anti-reflective lenses in my KGW gauge panel.

Adam has a really awesome webpage that explains gauge installation in detail and includes this tip.

What happens if I don't hack out the extra plastic behind the tach?
That area on the bottom will not light up at all. It will be a perfectly black area at night. This is fine for a stock-style gauge with zero at 7 o'clock, but for any other gauge it will look a bit silly.
I would recommend people consider it even with gauges that are similar in appearance to OEM like my 1028 style ones to avoid the partial loss of illumination behind the 8 near redline.

I took off the LED fog lights, previous owner wired them directly to the running lights which was always kind of lame... the passenger side fog would only work about 60% of the time anyway. The wiring looked good but who knows how old the lights were.

    Speaking of LEDs.

Swapped in these switch backs. They're excellent.
