Retro themed 97 Montego Blue Roadster

    Hi All,

I've lurked on the forums here the past few months and I've been inspired to document my own build after seeing some incredible builds on here and on Instagram.

    It’s been just over 5 years of ownership although it’s only in the past year that I’ve really dug into modifying my mx5 or miata as you lot like to call it (I’m from Australia by the way)! Aim is to finish off the exterior this year so I can get started on the interior which does need a fair amount of work. I do have some big exciting changes coming to the car in the next few months so I’m looking forward to sharing them but for now, I’ll keep this first post short. Here’s a list of what’s been done to date;

    Engine
Mania Intake (similar to the Randall Intake design)
    Enlarged Mania Intake
    14 Degree Advanced Timing
    Mazdaspeed Strut Brace

    Exhaust
Car Make Corns Catback 50mm Version
    200 Cell Magnaflow Hi-Flow Cat
    Fujitsubo 4-2-1 Headers

    Drivetrain
    Exedy Sports Tuff Clutch
    Lightweight Flywheel

    Wheels/Suspension
    Guards Professionally Rolled
    15x8+28 RPF1's wrapped in 225/45/15 Kumho V720
    MCA X-R Coilovers
FM Butterfly Brace and frame rails
93 LE Tie End Rods (to reduce tramlining as car is lowered)

    Exterior
    Black Hardtop
    S2 Racing Front Bumper
    Zoom Engineering Side Markers
    Clear Reflectors
    M2 Runabout Mirrors
    Zoom Retro Fuel Cap
    R-2 Limited Side Stripes
    Garage Vary Rear Panel
    Garage Vary Rear Badge
    R-Package Rear lip
Corns sticker on rear panel (just installed, not shown in pics)

    Interior
    NB SE Driver side seat
    330mm Wooden Nardi Steering Wheel
    Chrome Vent Rings
Chrome Hardtop Latches and Striker Plates
    Checkered Floor Matts

    More pictures to come!

thanks! As for the badge, my friend purchased it from me when he went to Karuizawa. I would imagine you could get it direct from GV?

    Barchetta.jpg

A small teaser of whats to come... soon to go in for paint. Ive been told that the barchetta bumper can run any lip that the stock bumper can. I've considered something like a TBO/Mazdaspeed front lip although I'm concerned it won't flow well with the mini lights once on, so i'll likely opt to go with a R package lip to match for now.

Really nice to see another aussie on this forum! your car looks awesome man! And you're from Sydney! we should meet up one time!

The barchetta bumper is gonna look epic once you put it on! It's my favourite bumper and have been wanting one ever since I laid eyes on them so for you to have one im both jealous and envious!

Thanks man, can definitely say the same about yours! It’s a work in progress but I'm hoping to get 90% of the exterior sorted out this coming month so I can get out more for some photoshoots! Yep Sydney, Hills area!

Always had a soft spot for the Barchetta as well. The simplicity of the design works wonders. Did I not mention that they look amazing on BRG's ;)? My other favourites are Mazdaspeed, RS aizawa and the M2 1001 although a Barchetta front end was the clear favourite given my upcoming plans.

Direct from jdmpartsrupewrecht(check him out on facebook). Pretty sure he can send parts to anywhere in the world. It wasn't exactly cheap though! I've seen some replicate the Barchetta bumper by modifying the stock bumper but that was well beyond my capabilities ha.

Thanks. I already have a barchetta bumper, but I was curious since I’ve haven’t seen a new one in so long. Also, he sounds familiar I definitely messaged him on Facebook for a few parts before

Hills? You're basically my neighbour! My mate Dan runs the Benzin cafe. We should meet up one time. Always loved a montego blue. It's rare to see Montego blue than BRG and rarer still to see one tastefully modified. I've only seen 2 in person over the last 4-5 years.

Excellent looking car! Love the S2 front bumper, but like the simpler, cleaner looks of the barchetta even more! What are your future plans?

Yep, the Hills! Fun fact, I believe he took that side on shot of my car in my first post when I stopped by at Benzin cafe for a mx5 meet. Yeah don't see too many montego blue's, 150 came between 96 and 97 I believe. Will shoot you a pm on FB.
