Took JamieH's advice and got glazing putty and proper filler primer from Pep Boys. Damn that putty works wonders. Very impressed. Put it on too thick but most got sanded off anyway. Stuff dries very quick. Lesson learned. Super smooth even with 220 grit paper. (Instructions recommended 300 or 400)

Then the filler primer helped as well. Any imperfections left Im not too worried about it. Another coat of primer and then the bedliner and satin black will hide it all.

Very impressed. Thanks JamieH for the advice.

The lid got sanded and primed after these photos.

And here is what the inside looks with primer. Not super pretty, but it will do. Not going to spend much time in there other than sanding the front top edge and painting it black.

Thanks guys!! I appreciate the kind words and the motivation to get it finished. Pretty pleased with how it came out even though it is not perfect. Not going to go back now and make it perfect...id probably make it worse at this point. It will do the job and has made me confident in my work.

I know what Id do better if I were to make another one.

With that project all finished up now, I can start on the next project...

    Gauge cups.

A while back I scored a spare crash pad from a local parted out miata so I figured it needs gauges. For 2017, the plan is to wire up a volt meter and a clock.

2018 Im thinking turbo so Ill add another gauge cup and install boost and other related turbo gauges at that time.

Thanks again Adam for great products, great packaging, awesome extras and fast shipping.

Its all in the details. Tiny Sharka stickers. Not pictured is a hot wheels yellow submarine.

Started to measure and align the gauge cup template today. Got a bit carried away after the measuring went almost too well. Used Adam's template, masking tape and some archaic measuring techniques and got the cups where I felt they need to be.

Didnt have the special Dremel attachment that was recommended so was trying to get as far as I could without it. I cut along the template holes with an xacto knife to score through the vinyl and traced that line with a silver sharpie. Then cut through the foam all the way around each hole and removed it from the plastic backing

Got farther than I thought I would with the xacto knife. Little Man was down for a nap so a trip to Lowes for the Dremel attachment wasn't in the cards. Decided to continue with the knife and cut through the plastic backing after tracing the removed vinyl on the backside. It is not too difficult to cut through the backing with a sharp knife. I felt it would reduce my chances of mistakes going slowly with the knife.

Cups were placed and removed several times to make sure they'd fit. Once the u-brackets are tightened they should fit perfectly. And eventually a new leather cover for the entire dash will make it look even better.

Now to clean them, paint them and order some dummy gauges.

Nice work. I have a shorty console and a spare OEM center console. If only I had the ambition to tackle a project like that.

    Thank you!!

The lid is the hardest part. Still not 100% happy with it. And since this one has a screw hole that wont tighten properly it will probably be replaced by another. Will start looking for a spare lid eventually.

Find a spare console for your spare console and try it out. Its a lot of hours and work overall but nothing all at once.

Cant wait to install it in the car.
