    AdoboMiata's 94M

Aloha MazdaRoadster! Sadly, my red miata got into an accident and the cost to repair the damaged was more than what I expected. My previous shell has been into numerous accidents and has been saved by many DIY fixes (maybe too many DIY fixes.) I decided the best choice was to start over.

A friend of mine donated a shell and it happened to be a 1994 M-Edition. Although this Miata is not in the greatest shape nor is the best choice, it will do for now.

This build thread will be about what I can turn this lemon into and for the thrill of building a Miata.

    [New Shell]
So a friend of mine donated this shell under a few agreements.

I also picked up a few parts: Stage 21 Hood, Epsilon Wheels, Sickspeed Horns, SuperMiata HB

I absolutely love my classic wheels. I remember my father collecting these catalogs and old school car magazines.

I will be transferring my engine, wheels, suspension, drive train, brakes, sensors , etc into the M edition.

    Rags
    Caulking gun
Rubber Sealant (I used permatex black gasket maker)
    10mm 12pt 3/8 drive socket
    8mm 12pt 3/8 drive socket
Rubber mallet (I used a dead blow hammer)

    estimated time?

These are BBS RS033. A pair had 2" lips and the other were 3.5" lips and they came with the weirdest size tire sizes.

I re-lipped the front wheels. I went with 4.5" lips from Tunershop.

Yes, I reused the same hardware. I will eventually use Neo-Chrome hardware from "baggedandproper" from instagram.

    Curious on the stock body:

Will be converting to the 1.6 Dash and removing the Tan interior. I pulled a lot of the wires from the firewall to wire tuck the engine bay. It will be more of a quick wire tuck than a full blown nice wire tuck.

I will be deleting the A/C blower/module etc..

Cut holes for the wires and sprayed the frame black..

Definitely look like Romango's old miata eh? Except his was very very clean.

purchased this Carbing 3pt Strut Bar,

purchased these OEM side repeaters/winkers awhile back. I only have one, and the person who sold them to me is still holding the other repeater/winker,

I am glad the Miata Club of Hawaii members are friendly and always offers great deals!

Jumping into the red car, I installed the Super Miata HB. Thank you ArauzMotoring(etikoner)!

I also test fitted the new valve cover that I received from Kelii (Supah_K - Thank you!)

Is it worth using this 3pt Strut Bar? I purchased it awhile back and it definitely is a nice "bling." From what I read and was told, frog arms would work better than a strut bar. I will be custom fitting a "brake stopper."

Fm sway and Racing Beat end links - it is missing a few bushings and screws

How engine bay looks at the moment: Deleted ABS Module, routed the harness through the fenders, and removed a lot EGR components.

Installed the 1.6 dash from the red miata and cleaned up A LOT of wires.

Hey I love stickers! If you guys want to donate some I will put them to use!

Carbon Miata CF trunk installed, GV panel installed and wires are tapped into main harness

I will be deleting the door cards until something really catches my attention. The interior is mostly gutted. I installed a cusco roll cage, aem wideband (still need to figure out which wire is o2 on the main harness), boost gauge, and sony double din.

Wired the jdm/euro oem side winkers

    A few parts came in,

SuperPro rack bushings & GarageStar Steering Rack Spacers (Thank you ken for the parts and sticker!):

I am so happy that my exhaust setup is V-Banded. It took only a few mins to remove the exhaust from the red miata.

Rear end swapped into blue car, along with the FM rear sway bar, Racing beat end links, Stance Coilovers, control arms, subframe, axles, half-stubs, ppf, 949 racing exhaust hangers, etc..

Hey guys, I decided to depower the steering rack (I have a 94 PS rack). I used the FM method (I did not weld the pinion) - SuperPro Steering Rack bushings, GarageStar Rack Spacer, Delete plugs.

Just a warning for those who are going to tackle this job, I suggest reading the instructions clearly. Here are some references that I used:

    FM Instructions: https://www.flyinmiata.com/tech/depower.php
    MiataBusa: http://www.motoiq.com/MagazineArticl...ring-Rack.aspx
    Vegard's Write up: http://clubroadster.net/vb_forum/86-...ring-rack.html

To be honest the hardest part was to pull/pop the Shaft/Cylinder

This job took me 3 hours. Why? WELL.. like what I said, read the instructions.

Pulled the engine from the 92 chassis and swapped into the 94 shell.

WHAM! [yes strut bar is not mounted yet]

Preview of how things will look.

Finally mounted the intercooler and ryokurob tow hook.

Installed front & rear brakes NB non-sport brakes, braided lines, coilovers, and more. I will readjust the suspension when the TRA rocket flares come in.

[No picture] I also installed the turbo down pipe, mid pipe, muffler, and driveshaft.

I also placed an order for these Fab9 cops, Oil Cooler kit, and Takata 3" racing harness.

On friday I will place my order on these end links (for the front) and an R-theory Diffuser (thanks _trackstance for letting me know about these guys.)

Good evening MR! Yesterday, I woke 6AM to work on this car.

I was not able to get the car to start. Sadly, it led to an all nighter and numerous researching...

Before all of this I ran through many issues: TPS was not working correctly, incorrect firmware, no fuel was being delivered, fuel leaking, spark issues, grounds, etc... After all this trouble, the car runs. Just waiting for my parts from TRA, Fab9, and Rtheory..

So I've been doing a lot of researching and reading about converting ABS brakes into Manual brakes. After bleeding the brakes for 5+ hours, I decided to research and read again.. I finally transferred the brake booster from the 92 to the 94 shell and compared each booster.

    http://forum.miata.net/vb/showthread.php?t=363284\
    http://www.miataturbo.net/suspension...oosters-82808/

    NON-ABS Booster (92) top
    ABS Booster (94) bottom

Each research explained how the MC (Master Cylinder) from the 90-00 NON-ABS/ABS Equipped all fits 02+ And does not fit 90-00.

    ABS Bottom
    NON-ABS Top

The shaft looks longer on the NON-ABS but I honestly think shaft is pre-adjusted differently. I could of adjusted the ABS shaft but nahh.....

    NON-ABS - Left
    ABS - Right

I got a lot of things done today!

    Completed today:
    Swap headlights
    install Carbing Strut Bar
    switch boosters
    bleed brakes
    brake heat shield
transfer 1.6 throttle cable onto 94 shell
cut and fit fuel pump panel
    verify brake conversion
    tuck brake booster hard line

    .

Minor update, I purchased a lot of parts to get the blue shell on the ground and rolling..

Most of my oem replacement parts were purchased through Rock Auto. Very Cheap shipping (especially to Hawaii), I definitely recommend them. I probably should of purchased the LE outer tie rods to help with the bump steer (although I do have the GS rack spacer).

Old outer tie top, new on the bottom.

    New left - old right

    Steering rack:
depowered - removed seals and did not weld the pinion
    rockauto 94 outer tie rods
    rock auto steering boots
    reused inner tie rods
    Garage Star Steering Rack Spacer
    SuperPro Steering Rack Bushing

The diffuser and end links came in. I decided to sell the diffuser and keep the end links. Such a nice piece!

The rear brake lines that were originally on the 94 shell were leaking and the flare nuts were worn. I replaced the rear OE Brake hard line and the rear brake hoses/lines.

Thank you 949 Racing for the cool stickers and rear braided set.

Gettting there.. just a few more things: Fab9 Oil Cooler Kit, Fab9 Cops, valve cover gasket, spark plugs, tune, flares, spacers etc..

    Finally got the car running,

But as usual.. problem after problem

    Goodbye Miata...

Alright.. so these were the problems:
Shuts off at idle especially when the headlights are on (figured it out - IAT sensor was not connected)

Front end was making a constant scrapping sound (front brake rotor was rubbing on dust shield)

Now new problem -- rear is making a loud screeching sound. It sounded like the exhaust was dragging on the ground/ metallic sound.

Posting a few updates in regards to FAB9tuning:

After doing a lot of research I finally found some instructions and got the coils running. Here is the wiring diagram that was given on MiataTurbo.

    I am using WASTED SPARK,
    Wiring for Wasted Spark:

    Cyl 1----------Cyl 4
    Green tap into White

    Cyl 2-----------Cyl 3
    Brown tap into Yellow

    From the coil assembly:
    Green - Cylinder 1
    Yellow - Cylinder 2
    Brown - Cylinder 3
    White - Cylinder 4
    Red - Power
    Black - Ground

I have a 94 m edition so the "instructions" that were given does not 100% match.

    Coil Assembly ---> 1.8 (94) harness
    Red -- Blue (Both Connectors)
    Black -- Black (Both Connectors)
    Green & White -- Brown/Yellow
    Yellow & Brown -- Brown

*The Spark Plugs that were included are Denso Iridiums. I gapped them at .030

I left the white/black wire from the connector side disconnected. I am not sure what to do because my Tachometer is not working.

Anyone got this working? I tried changing the settings on megasquirt from "tachout" to be on and no difference. I did not add the 1k resistor or jumper yet... so that could be a factor.

    MEGASQUIRT/TUNERSTUDIO:

    Dwell Settings 2.5ms

    Pros:
My Miata does idles smoothly and starts up quicker than my stock ignition
    Cleaner fitment
Held up 10psi with no problems (still need to test it up to 18psi)

    Cons:
Does not sit flush on the valve cover -- and is held down by one rubber o-ring
Instructions were not given and are not correct -- have to figure out the wiring
Tach won't work unless the problem is figured out
Not so much Plug N Play.

I'll rate these cops 8/10 -- these are acceptable for a budget build
