Talking Hello from the land of Crumpets and tea! New UK mx5/Miata owner!

So I'm a new MX5 owner, had it about 3 months now. I have been a member on the forum for like a month and a half but with work and home life, I'm just getting around to introducing myself to the community.

I have to say, being a bigger set male, I was very sceptical about buying one, but from enticement from friends including a fellow member I took the plunge and bought one. I have to say, they are probably the best 2 seat convertible I have driven. My first car was a Japanese import Toyota levin, and it reminds of the precision I got in the levin, but you have more fun in an MX5 as the tail can give you some input! 😊

I have done a few mods already including replacing the wheel, new radio and an oil pressure gauge. The steering wheel is a Nardi deep dish 320mm with a quick release hub, makes for some interesting faces in Tesco. I have a lip purchased and on the way, and a set of JDM fog lights also on the way.

I'm a 23 year old Fitter in Halfords with a keen interest in Motorsport, be that drifting or BTCC or anything else I can get my hands on. I'm also a keen self taught mechanic so anything I can get my hands on, be that experience or literature, that make my mechanics skills any better will be of massive interest to me.

Thanks a lot for reading my post, I hope I didn't bore you too much.

This always makes me smile. I had tons of room left in the cockpit, back when I was 350#. Now there's just a lot more empty space.

I understand the british reference for 'heavy set' is something like 'fatt cnut' or similar :-) I have been called this many times myself.

What happen to the levin ?

I do think the mx5 offers much better for value due to the craazy price drops since the late 90s.

The levin had to be sold when I moved country the person who bought it from me destroyed it 2 weeks later the Miata/mx5 offers amazing value for money, it's an incredible machine to learn all kinds of techniques and powered at such a level that if something goes wrong you ding it rather that plough it. Parts are cheap and the thriving aftermarket community keep this machine in play even as more powerful and crazy cars become available.
