I am uhh, thinking about some things, and uhhh, need some ideas...

Glovebox, where it is only visible when it is open. In later models, I have put it where the PS airbag goes. I use magnets to keep the airbag cover in place and remove it when I need to see the gauge.

I had one on the A pillar. If it isn't monitoring a wide band, it may drive you nuts at night. I used to block it by the position of my hand on the steering wheel. When I reinstall it, I will put it on the blanking plate under the stereo, left of the shifter, next to the fire suppression trigger.

Currently I am thinking of the left most passenger vent, or the radio blocking plate which I think I have enough room on it to cut a hole for a gauge. Plus the blocking plate is old and ugly so I can't really mess it up. I plan on replacing it and the stereo with nicer more classy ones eventually and can deal with it again then. I also want to add an oil temp gauge in the near future so I have to think of that too.
I was looking at the gv gauge hood pods, but my large nardi would block visibility
Ergonomically, the vents are decent for this purpose. I have an LED sweep gauge because where I placed it, a digital number readout would have been more distracting. A lot depends on the readout style and the sensor. A wide band gauge won't dither nearly as much as one monitoring a narrow band. Really, I found myself glancing at it under full throttle to make sure the a/f was where it should be. Maybe a few seconds if it was a high load situation.
The other problem mounting it higher, like on the A pillar, is it attracts unwanted attention, especially at night. Cops watch you, idiot stoplight wonders see it and want to race you more often, vehicle inspection stations look more closely at your car, etc.
Yep, that is a big concern of mine. Pillar gauges scream "I am a douchebag ricer" unless paired with an otherwise classy or obviously well built car.
I only am getting a wideband because I have to have one, not to show it off. I don't really want anyone to know I have *currently a secret until build thread update* installed unless they know what it sounds like
Hey I'm no can of soup and thats the only thing that should be labeled! j/k
I know many feel similar but it suits my needs/wants and like it but i definitely understand peoples different view point on the matter and where KFJ and others concerns about the a pillar solution are coming from.
To me it is the best location to be monitored but the ac vents is a close second but giving up a ac vent in Texas, regardless of how little I use the ac, isn't a option for me. Plus with 6 aftermarket gauges currently and possibly 2 or more to come the places to put them will get scarce.
This location and just above the steering column on my previous nb1(using a ATi pod that replaced the blank cover, which I also liked) are the only two i have had personal experience with so hard to say how other placement would work for me. Seems like the ac vent option is popular wity people that don't need or care about air obstruction.

It also just kind of suits your build, in mine I feel it would stand out too much
And I don't intend on giving up my drivers vents, and my AC doesn't work right now anyways
Still thinking passenger vent might work, or the stereo panel. I might have to order a gauge and just do mockups
IMO, this whole yarn is irrelevant. A-pillar gauges are so 90s, hell even dedicated gauges at all. I say, don't disturb the Miata and when you need to know your AFR, just fire up the app when needed.

^that is something I am considering, too. I have a small android tablet I am considering using instead, maybe even a used android phone. I have to look into the Tunerstudio app for MS. I could just clip it on the dash for monitoring when needed, leave home or in the glovebox when I don't.
