Fun indeed. And it ought to be for the $200k+ it cost to build that thing. I appreciate that it exists but it's way beyond my means.

Well it is a factory prepped rally car after all! Engine is now 1.8 turbocharged, with 300whp output, and I expect only the "base" chassis to be the same with production cars. 124 units will be produced and sold to teams participating at FIA R-GT cup. Price will be 150k euros, so yeah, close to 200k USD.

So basically more than an average American would spend for a house and retirement in Miami? I'll take a stock NB please.

R-GT is cheaper to run than WRC, J-WRC or S-2000 as the cars are all RWD and run only tarmac events. But it's still professional motorsport, which is never cheap. The car would be a lot more expensive to develop if they only had a team of 2 cars. The fact that it's only reportedly costing 150k euros means they're likely just breaking even and hoping to make it up with sales of support and spare parts! I believe Tuthill took a Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car and spent another $500k developing it run and eventually win the inaugural R-GT Cup in 2015. See the episode of Chris Harris on Cars for more details on that one.
