    Hood Lift Kit/Hood struts/bonnet lifter

    Hi.
    Capture.PNG

I see Moss sells a set from Cobalt but its only one lifter and there are some reports about bent hoods.

You have IL's which FM also sells, these demand drilling.

Then there is these RSpeed and GoMiata which have two lifters and do not demand any drilling. These kits (could be that its the same kit) seems out of stock. Beats me since I seems like the best deal.
Tein has a set that do not require drilling, but they are expensive compared to the other sets.

Anyone had experience with multiple sets or have other feedback?

I bought a set from R*Speed, I dunno, in '05 or '06? They lasted 10 years, seeing plenty of use. I replaced them again with another set from R*Speed this year, after they went soft and wouldn't hold up the hood anymore. I *think* they are from IL Motorsport. I can understand how people could bend their hoods, but I think a lot of that is just carelessness. It's a braced hood, but still aluminum-skinned. I love the lifts, it makes working on the car easier, raises the hood higher, and frees up a little bit of under hood room with the hood prop gone.

I love my Tein kit. No drilling required. Very simple to install. Pricier compared to other kits. This is my second kit though.

I have a set from Track Dog Racing, http://trackdogracing.com/polisheddualhoodliftkit.aspx , which IL Motorsports are the manufacturer and they have been great thus far(had installed for 7 months but had them over 1.5yrs prior to installing).

They do require drilling one hole on each side of the hood but TDR has great instructions. I bought them used bnib so I got them for much less than the listed price but would still pay msrp because they are fantastic!

I would definitely say a bent hood is from careless since I have less hood bracing since i had to cut some of it for the Singular Motorsports hood vents and have had no such issues, even with less of a rigid hood.

I have the Moss hood prop on both of my cars. I like the height or angle of opening also once you slightly push the hood up, it raises on its own. Common sense dictates that to close the hood you should pull/push it down over on the side of the strut. I am right handed so I don't have to worry about it since it is on the right side.
The advantage of the Moss prop from what I notice is it opens the hood much wider than the others I have seen. Much more opening than the OEM manual prop. Also the strut replacement is cheap down the road. I only have 4 years on my first prop and still going strong.
Either brand IMHO you need this if you work your own car and planning to keep it.

Would be awesome if you could take some pics and/or measures of the plates that come with the Tein kit. Seems to be discontinued and I can't find it in Europe, and I would love to install some hood lifters without actually having to drill anything even if I don't have the cool green color.

I would take pics but I am really not wanting to take the kit apart. The plates actually have indentations where the hood brackets sit in perfectly so it is flush and not slightly raised.

When looking closer at the pictures I see that this ebay kit has some massive brackets, while Rspeeds kit is more elegant.
The price different er small if any when the kit arrives at your door.

I see that Rspeeds sells this kit from IL Motorsport as well. That kit requires drilling. Guess Rspeed has it in stock just so they can offer a shining piece.

But this kit that is black, cool and requires no drilling seem to origin from Rspeed.

Since I see no gain from drilling the holes I prefer the black cool kit.

I deal with a lot of hoods and have had many with struts that just not hold the hood up.
I never have had an issue with the IL ones, which I have a pair myself.
The TDR ones are not IL.
