    His gauge cluster doesn't work....

And only 180 to the wheels with a V6 and IRTB's? Is that a normal amount?

But enough hate, it looks so nice!
1990 Miata, she was red but now she is Spirit Green!

For a KL it is. lol. They really aren't that great of a motor. It's just nice to keep it in the family.

Necessary to supply air to the ITB setup that WAS on that car. (I now own that very setup.)

I believe the car was running an Autronic EMS. It wasn't a street car, dedicated SSM car, the gauges don't matter much.

180whp isn't bad for a motor that originally made 164 crank. The only changes to the motor were exhaust, ITBs, and some ZE pistons. Ended up making in the 190s. That's a HUGE gain when you think about it, especially considering the car was even running stock cams. HUGE gains to be had there.

I'm looking for 250-260whp out of mine on STOCK bottom end with this same ITB setup if that tells you anything.

KLs are nasty motors... the engineering behind them is incredible. They really shine under boost, and i think there's huge N/A potential there, just no real support. Stay tuned, i guess.

I understand it's necessary. But I still think it's ugly as fk and could have been done better.

I would agree. You'll be pleased to know that current owner of that car is using a traditional manifold on the car and is going with a stock hood as far as i know.

I'm not entirely sure what i'm going to do yet with my car with those ITBs.

So how do you plan to deal with the oiling issues that arose in the first iteration of this swap? IIRC that's why he ended up shelving this project.

It wasn't oiling issues, it was weight. The KL turned out to be heavier than the BP, and the minimum weight in the class is lower for a BP due to lower displacement vs. the KL.

And he was having a hard time making the power he wanted n/a. And if boosting, may as well just go BP for autox use.

He probably did mention oiling issues at some point, though. I remember he was asking around almost a year ago about spinning a KL to 9000rpms, and yes, at that point, oiling issues do pop up.

only? A stock 1.6L is only like 90hp to the wheels on a good day! I'd say 180 N/A hp to the wheels is pretty damn tits!

I would be ok with 100rwhp if it made those noises, too...

Anyways, i want to see more "KLiatas," so i'll definitely be keeping you guys posted on what my Escort ends up making. I believe there's a couple people developing swap kits for this motor in a Miata, and i'm hoping it ends up being only slightly more expensive than boosting the stock motor, and if it looks like 240whp is pretty attainable, i bet it'd be just as fast if not faster.

    Sure thing: http://www.mx5nutz.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=72269

I'm not too keen on the intake setup or the body work but i think this is a great conversion!
I love the K-series engines for their sound and the way they are engineered - power of the 2.5 aint too shabby either, especially the ZE really flies in a light car.
