    Opinions about Enkei compe wheel

I bought a set of these for under $500 yesterday From the pictures on cars they look very good. What is your opinion about them?

I think they look great but they're a bit on the heavy side.

I'm partial to Minilite replicas/banana spoke wheels. I think they look fantastic on Miatas.

And yes, they are on the heavy side. But nearly every Miata sized banana spoke type of wheel is. Which is fine for most Miatas that will be mostly or fully street driven.

They need a flush center cap. What is the diameter?

This is a picture from the internet. The original Enkei compe was a classic. They did not have the ridges on the sides like the modern ones.

If I could find originals in 14x7, +20, in good condition, I'd take 'em!

I think they will look great on the Miata. I am with Jamie on this one.

I had a set, and sold them because of the weight. It's not true at all that all this style wheels are heavy, there are Watanabe and Black Racing, Panasport, Minilite, Ultralite and Minator, JBW and others that are all much lighter than the Compe. My 15 x 7 Compe were 8.3kg each, compared to my Panasports that are just over 5kg for 15 x 7 ... more than 3kg difference per wheel. I wasn't sure if it would matter, but you could feel the difference in handling.
I now have some Atara racing wheels that are the same sort of design, 15 x 9 et minus 13 and they are 6.4kg a wheel.

Considering these wheels are made by Enkei, I think it's a lazy design, it wouldn't take much to get the weight down.

    Russell.

Aha, but they did. You'll find them listed as the Enkei Compe Limited

Considering that these were rally wheels of their day, I'm pretty sure weight took a back seat to strength. Anyhow, they look great.

Its nice to know that I will have a set of retro wheels then. I thought the ridges were just add ons for the modern version, my bad.

Prefer the look without the ridges. Actually, I'd just be happy if we had a steady supply of cheap used RS Watanabes available in the USA.
