Saturday was spent watching 24 Hours of Le Mans and doing a dash swap.

Before shot. I couldn't stand the look of the NA8 dash by this point, and could not wait to get rid of it.

    Swapping the wires.

Wires zip tied tight, new rubber foam seal installed near the windshield, and mirror control module relocated with 3M double-sided tape. NA6 dashes have 1 less accessory port, so it was either this or extend the wires into the glovebox. Mirrors will probably be changed at some point anyways so no reason to go overboard. VIN swapped.

No dash. You can see the old seals on the vent control box unit thing.

Seals removed and replaced with rubber foam.

    Aaaaaaaaand voila.

Love it love it love it. Oh and I forgot to mention the 2011 Prototipo. Love that too. I mean the interior has a COMPLETELY different vibe to it now, definitely my favorite modification to date.

Only thing I'm not pleased with is the glovebox. See that crooked gap? Not cool. I'll try to adjust it some, but I'll probably end up putting some rubber weather seal on the edge. I also need another interior light for the drivers side, or a plug.

Congrats - looks fantastic! I think the glove box fitment is the only thing better about the NA8 dash. Looking forward to any tips you can provide on a fix

Amazing! I really really dislike the NA8 dash, so that made a TON of difference. Plus my OCD is satisfied from all the cleaning/replacing seals thing. Have to take my dash apart at some point as well to clean everything up.

Gave Moby the attention he deserves last week with a wash, clay, and wax.

    Wax on.

    Wax off.

Loving the car lately, what a joy to drive.

So a while back I had to modify my GarageStar radiator cooling panel due to rubbing issues with the hood latch. The panel rattled and rubbed against the latch, and I ended up cutting the panel and raising the hood. A combination of both of those caused the hood to rattle again, it was loose.

I lowered the hood latch again, but in order to stop the rattle I had to drop it very low. Low enough that it was rubbing on the cooling panel again. facepalm.gif.

After having a look at the hood latch with the hood closed, I found the problem. Close the hood, pop up the lights, and you should have a clear view of the latch area. In my case, the hood was BARELY making contact with the bump stops - all 4 of them. Went ahead and ordered a new set from Atkins Rotary.

The old bump stops are worn out and compressed, and are around 1/8" shorter than new ones. I went a bit further and added a 1/8" rubber washer between the bump stop and car for good measure, which is why you see three lines below.

Hood raised, makes contact with bump stops, body panels now matching.

I'm not quite sure what you said there but I think the bump stops got compressed like this due to incorrect adjustment of the hood latch in the first place. Maybe just age, who knows...

My bad haha meant to say, who would have thought the bump stops shorten over time.

    Compliments appreciated!

Moby's trunk has always leaked. Rain? Wet trunk. Rinsed the car with a hose? Wet trunk. A quick search (3 years ago) suggested the tail light seals need to be replaced. 3 years of procrastination later, new light seals. The trunk only leaked on the right side, and after taking off the lights, I could see why.

Drivers side was generally fine. The seal came off in one piece and was in decent shape:

The passenger side was a different story. I mean look at it:

This was nasty, hardened rubber that had began decomposing. It took me at least 30 minutes to remove with alcohol and a razor blade. When I was done, I noticed the blade took off paint in some places - not down to bare metal, but down to the primer. I went ahead and touched up these spots with a touch-up pen.

New seals aren't too interesting to look at, so the finished product:

Nice work! mine was pretty much the same. took me a long time to get the residue off my driver side (passenger side for you guys in the United States of Awesome)

You should take the rear bumper off and do a clean there too. Lots more work to be had!~

    So, center console.

I've always loved the M2-1001 and M2-1028. The perfect roadster. Both of these M2 Incorporated machines serve as inspiration for Moby, even though neither came in tan. The centerpiece of the interior in both of them is the carpet console, which looks very much vintage-roadster. I've had plans of making my own for a couple of years and never got around to it even though a spare rear shelf piece has been laying around for a while. The problem mainly has been locating a shift boot ring that is acceptable. I don't like the Cobra shift ring that is widely available - it's stamped metal and looks a bit cheap for my taste. After quite a bit of searching, I stumbled upon something that should work nicely.

This ring is actually meant for a Moto-Lita steering wheel, but I'm sure they won't mind it repurposed for my needs.

Unfortunately, it is the same size as the upper shift boot. This causes it to sit on top of the rubber boot and not "around" it. This meant I had to make some sort of frame to hold it in place. M2-1028 ring and support frame below for reference.

    Don't laugh.

It works - that's all that matters. Unfortunately, I measured the leg height incorrectly and needed to make some adjustments to lower the ring as much as possible. The higher it sits, the more "wavy" the carpet will look where it meets the tombstone.

    Again, don't laugh. It works.

It's still a work in progress, and the interior is half-taken apart again, so here's a photo of better times. It feels so cozy in there.
