More Artisan Shift Knobs at revlimiter

    Artisan Shift Knobs at revlimiter.net!

    • Artisan-made in VERY small batches. Want a unique shift knob? Look no further.
    • M10x1.25 threaded. Fits all Miatas ever made - NA, NB, NC, and ND. 1989-2017.
    • Wood shift knobs are produced by Rich of Long Dog Wood Studio.
    • Inserts produced by me, Adam at revlimiter.
    • Insert is the same as on the badges - composed of vinyl and solar-cell quality polyurethane epoxy.

Shift knobs start at $75 and may be more due to cost of the wood used. Brake grips start at $49. I've got a decent amount in stock at the revlimiter Store.

Shift knobs are available in two shapes - Teardrop and 911. The Teardrop is inspired by a Japanese shift knob shape (it shifts fast and brings joy). The 911 shape is inspired by the knobs used in the cars of a Porsche builder who sings. Car enthusiasts will likely understand.

All knobs feature an M10x1.25 threading. That means they fit on more than just Miatas. I've got one on my Mazda3 family car as well. It's fantastic.

The March 2017 batch includes these four types of wood - Argentine Lignum Vitae, Purple Heart, Osage Orange, and genuine Lignum Vitae aka Guayacan. The Guayacan knobs can only be shipped and sold in the US due to CITES Appendix II regulations.

Both the Teardrop and 911 are three inches tall (76mm). They're designed to allow all four fingers to hold the shifter if you so desire.

Each knob ships with the domed vinyl insert of your choice. For a few bucks more, I can make a custom one to your specs. The ones pictured are the standard models that are always in stock.

Sharka's Argentine Lignum Vitae shift and brake grip. This is something I've wanted for a long time. It's extremely satisfying to shift with.

Stormy's Guayacan (genuine LV) shift and brake grip. I've never had anything made from the genuine stuff. It's pretty stunning and matches the basketball interior nicely.

All orders for these are done via an email form. Every shift knob I've got has some slight differences. Because of this, it seemed like email and some forwarded photos were the way to go. Better than trying to keep an impersonal store order form updated.

If you want some exotic wood in your Miata, get your order in soon!

These things are selling like crazy!! Thanks for the support all!

No NA/NB brake grips left. I've got 2 NC grips in Lignum Vitae.

No Teardrop shaped shifters left. I might let one out of my personal collection so someone can enjoy it.

I've got a live inventory photo in my store on the order form page so you can see exactly what's in stock.

Here's a question you've probably had to answer previously a thousand times How much do these weigh?? Similar to stock or slightly less??
You want a good car. I want a good miata.

As Rustrat posted, weights are on my site.

But it depends on what you're comparing them to. Any wood knob is gonna likely weigh less than a metal one. If you're comparing it to the OEM stock shifter, these are a bit lighter. If you're comparing them to the OEM wood knob, these are a decent bit heavier.

So... just depends on your point of view.

1 Lignum Vitae shift knob left.

1 Guayacan (which is genuine Lignum Vitae, not Argentine) left. And there was only 1 to begin with. It's boggles my mind that no one has bought this yet. It's an incredible wood. Super hard to find and hard to work. And... it's just sitting on the shelf.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lignum_vitae
Lignum vitae is hard and durable, and is also the densest wood traded (density: 1.23 g/cm3);[3] it will easily sink in water. On the Janka Scale of Hardness, which measures hardness of woods, lignum vitae ranks highest of the trade woods, with a Janka hardness of 4500 lbf (compared with African Blackwood at 2940 lbf, Hickory at 1820 lbf, red oak at 1290 lbf, Yellow Pine at 690 lbf, and Balsa at 100 lbf).

Various other hardwoods may also be called lignum vitae and should not be confused with it. The best-known come from Bulnesia arborea and Bulnesia sarmientoi (in the same subfamily as Guaiacum) and are known as Verawood or Argentine lignum vitae; they are somewhat similar in appearance and working qualities as genuine lignum vitae. Some hardwoods from Australasia (e.g., Vitex lignum-vitae and some species of Acacia and Eucalyptus) are also referred to as lignum vitae.
Not to say anything bad about the Argentine wood. It's glorious as well and has a better smell (both have a natural mild perfume to them). But the guayacan.... dang. It's wonderful.

I don't mean to take anything away from these, only point something out. The OEM wood Nardi knobs offered for NBs are 6.1oz, or 173g. But, they're also increasingly rare and can't be bought new or have a custom insert, they were only available with either a 5 or 6 speed shift pattern.

So, while these are all heavier than the NA Nardi, they are lighter than the NB Nardi. But these are, while Adam still has them, a lot easier to aquire and customize.

Yes, and because those Nardi are so rare they go for mad cash now, I sold one of my OEM Nardi last year for $275, so if you want you can still get used OEM Nardi but they are $275 to $375 all day now.

BTW that Teardrop version Adam has looks about the perfect shape! And I love the fact that you can pop in whatever logo you want on there!! Maybe you guys that want some weight can core it out a bit more and pour melt lead in there and re tap it?

We need some photos of these inside a Tan Interior NA, NB, but they look sweet! Also some photos inside the ND would be cool. Maybe at Miatapalooza we can put some on various cars to get some more photos and ideas for color combos
