    Question M@TG HPDE

    ***Venue change! ROAD ATLANTA!!!***

I was proposed an idea that I wanted to relay because I thought it was pretty interesting. An Atlanta HPDE organization was looking for a way to create a Miata-only track event. It was suggested that perhaps one way to garner enough interest was to do one a day or two prior to M@TG weekend.

Plans are fluid and the organizer is extremely reputable, safety-first with an emphasis on fun and friendly atmosphere. It would be held at world-famous and prestigious ROAD ATLANTA in Braselton, GA.

Now, it is about a 3 hour trip from the Fontana to Road Atlanta. That is actually part of the fun! That would be an excellent primer for a Miata-only track day.

The impetus for this event comes from the adventure I had when I did Miatas at Laguna Seca by caravanning up the Pacific Coast Highway with other Miatas from LA to Monterrey. Part of the fun to that event was the drive up. The drive from Fontana to Road Atlanta is far shorter, but no less fun.

The event will have instructors on site, and the intention is to limit the field to four groups; novice, intermediate, intermediate 2, and advanced. Essentially, all you need to bring is your car, yourself, and your excitement.

Cars would be limited to those able to run safely on a track (rollbar) that don't leak, and are in good running condition.

I think if any vendors wanted to come out and demonstrate what their products can do on the track, they would be welcome.

Feedback and interest would be welcome so plans can be made to get it rolling. Thanks for reading!

    We have a winner!

Anything that brings this to fruition I am up for! My thoughts are this is 'Palooza with less traffic and more driving. Yee Haw!

For the others in our fold...

Sorry. I might have gotten a little beyond myself. But I do appreciate the post. And love the idea. Thank you Sir. Let us make this happen, please.

Wow!! RA is no small deal!!
I've got a lot less horsepower - luckily they are Japanese horses - usually in better shape and more motivated.

    I won't disagree.

I think there are 4 or 5 tracks left nationwide with the prestige and heritage of Road Atlanta. Laguna Seca, Virginia Int'l Raceway, Watkins Glen, and Mid Ohio. This is great opportunity to drive at speed with other Miatas at a pretty special place. This isn't some parade lap show, but we do want it to be genteel, exciting, and fun.

I know some may think a 3 hour drive from Deals Gap to Road Atlanta may seem long, but we think your journey to and from the track could be part of the experience. I mean, you could spend 3 hours just trying to get through the Cherohala Skyway if traffic is slow. ;)

That would be worth the drive, even if you weren't going to make MATG.

We are still gathering interest! We need more people to pre-register to make this happen. We will cap the entries, so if you know a Miata owner who wants to do this, please point them to the pre-reg link above.

We need to be sure we can cover costs, but still maintain a high level of quality. Some HPDE organizers may try to cram as many entrants as possible, to lower costs and maximize profits, but we won't do that. The philosophy is based on safety, experience, and value. We will utilize Road Atlanta's station workers and safety crews. They are some of the most professional and responsive we have ever worked with.
