These are terrific videos! It really demonstrates how detailed and tedious these builds are. Lots of trial and error, repetition, and slogging through to make progress. Preparation is so much of the process in competition, few casual fans of the sport realize how much goes into it. Great production value on the editing, too!

Thanks KFJ, it does take quite a bit of extra work/time to put these into videos. That one episode spans something like 6 weeks of work, maybe 8 weeks. I've been trying to trim these down to an easily digestible length, and that means cutting a lot of work that went on.

I'm just going to leave this here.

Tire fitment mockup on the Datsun (27 tire diameter, 13 tire width, 15x15 wheel):

There have been several chunks of progress on several parts of the build, but I'm pretty focused on finally wrapping the quarter plugs up so we can pull a body mold.

Any concerns for misjudging race lines with the rear quarters offset that far from the front? I'm just thinking about hillclimbing where the line goes edge to edge with obstacles and soft shoulder drops where the tarmac ends.

Drywall putty is cheaper, faster to cure, and quicker to sand than bondo for the final forming.

The front will be just as wide as the rear. It sounds like you're describing European hillclimbs, where they have smooth roads and runoff areas. On some of our hills, each side of the car will be touching grass at the same time. You just have to hang your inside tire over the drop and keep the outside loaded up.

Kevin's Troyer Modified car is a good baseline for my car's footprint.

We missed the first event of the season (Ascutney), but made it out for Mt Okemo this weekend. It was fantastic. The weather was the best I've ever seen. Aside from my alignment being still-terrible (I'll get it aligned before the next event), and the exhaust being unbelievably loud ... it was perfect. I had a battle with Jason in his ZC-powered*f'k#223 CRX and he pulled out a fantastic run on Sunday. I made him work for the win, and am definitely looking forward to continuing the fight for a class win throughout the rest of the season.

Here's one of my runs, and I'm pretty happy with my driving, all things considered.

    #ModestMiataV2 videos

I forgot to mention that the #ModestMiataV2 has been getting a bunch of attention lately. The cage has already received a few updates over the winter, with some more changes coming soon. Don't forget to subscribe if you want to follow along (I've been hovering around 495 subscribers for months, and REALLY want to finally cross the 500 mark)!

    Current status of the cage:

FINALLY! It feels like we've been working toward getting 500 of the most excellent people on the planet together for a long, long time. I think this is cause for celebration, and a giveaway. I'll try to get a video up this week for that!
