Whoa! Randy Stocker's PitCrew looking Miata

I was a little surprised to see Randy Stocker post this locally today:

"8/15/2017. Had a passing thought to sell the Italia last night. It won't be a $2000 car but it won't be a $20,000 car either. It is insured for $16k only because that was my guess of what it would take to recreate it in the event of a major accident assuming some of the parts would be transferable.

If anyone might be interested PM me.

    Randy"

    This is his car:

    Pitalia2.jpgPitalia1.jpgPitalia4.jpg

"My fully built 1862cc engine ... About 4000 miles on it. (5/24/2016)

    • overbore +.5mm
    • block decked to minimum blueprint (.026")
    • factory 10:1 pistons (with shave and deck the CR is right about 11:1)
    • Select weight matched factory rods
    • bull nose crank. rotating assembly spun balanced
    • blueprint oil pump (.002") with stiffer spring for both high volume and high pressure.
    • light crank pulley
    • '99 4W head shaved to minimum blueprint (.018").
    • Head street ported (ceiling only), valves un-shrouded. Intake ports flowed 232 cfm @ 28".
    • values stems backcut
    • light weight solid lifters
    • mazdaspeed 9mm lift, 260 intake cam. '99 ex.
    • RC 370cc injectors
    • ported '99 intake manifold
    • Volvo valve springs
    • adjustable cam gears.
    • +2.5 mm overbord TB to 57.5mm
    • BSP 4:1 large diameter nickel supercharger header
    • 13 lb steel flywheel
    • mazdaspeed high spring pressure clutch with centerforce weights added.
    • "Cosworth" engraved Ford Escort GT valve cover

Designed to spin to 9000 for brief periods with 8300 the max sustained. Depending on tune can be anywhere from 143 hp to 181 hp at the rear wheels. Full advance autocross torque setting is 143 rwhp @6400, full retard and overlap dyno queen setting is 181 rwhp @9000. I retuned last year for a nice street compromise so my guess is currently right around 153-155 rwhp. 125-130 ft lbs depending on tune with a very flat curve. I've got the dyno charts somewhere on my computer if I can find them.

    some pictures at http://www.solomiata.com/street.html

Very strong engine! oil pressure is 90 cold and 60 hot."

I was surprised he has owned this car for 25 years now.

Randy usually comes out to the monthly ATL meets on the north side of town. He brings it when the weather is nice. It's beautiful car. The interior is a little worn, but the body is terrific. He's a very nice guy to chat with as well.

I don't think that he did.
I've got a lot less horsepower - luckily they are Japanese horses - usually in better shape and more motivated.

I see him at the local meet from time to time and he’s still a little active on Mx5atl.

I have seen it at Randy's house, and it is really nice, and a well sorted build.

So you’re the reason Randy moved to a new house. Finally get it.

I bumped into Randy this w/e, he plans to keep the car. He described the f/s post as sort of an exasperation moment. I can definitely relate.

He also said he's planning on swapping in a 3.4 V8 (the Porsche/Yamaha engine from the late-90s SHO). He's trying to emulate the 275 GTO look with the car. It made sense from that perspective.
