    Irma SitRep

For those that don't know, I'm a police dispatcher for Manatee County, between Sarasota and Tampa.

With the pending storm now aiming directly for us, we are being activated. I'm responding to work tonight at 7pm and will not be leaving until potentially Wednesday morning.

The only thing missing in this pic is my air mattress and pillow. We will be at the EOC for an undetermined amount of time.

I have officially left my home and all my belongings, including Lobo. I won't know what happens until its all over.

As a newer supervisor with a very young staff, neither I nor them have handled a similar situation and I made sure to get extra snacks, necessary items, utensils, and medication as I have a feeling some may forget items or underestimate the situation.

In this time of uncertainty, everyone wishes that we be safe. Thanks to my job I will be in one of if not the safest building in town. Its our responders and our citizens I'm concerned about.

We're going to get through this storm. I know the quality of everyone I work with and know that the county is in great hands.

    Wish us luck friends.

Wow, that is going to be the workshift from hell but thanks for what you do. I'm sure you're goung to get slammed Sunday night with not much you can do about it. I hear that once the winds get to 40mph, nobody is coming to save you.

Yes at some point we will just be fielding calls and all responders will be hunkered down and we will not be able to respond until after the storm clears and it's determined to be safe.

I'll try to keep everyone updated.

Damn. Irma is starting her turn northward and will gain speed and intensity due to our warm gulf waters. I was really hoping she'd keep going west and die in the Yucatan but that would be wishing ill upon Cancωn. Speaking of Mexico, there's hardly a mention that it just suffered a massive 8.1 earthquake on one side while hurricane Katia beat it up on the other!

My heart goes out to all of them and for the Cubanos who have been directly incurring Irma's wrath all day today.

I see on the news, people on the east coast (FL) have already lost power although I'm not sure why with Irma still around Cubs. I'm trying to do everything I can while I still have power. Still filling bathtubs and trying to repair generator in the garage. Damn, I have a fortune in food in the freezer too. Going to try to prep food, do laundry and take a hot shower and enjoy air conditioning while I have a chance. Also charging all my 19v tool batteries, HAM radio, phone, iPad etc etc etc.
