And hello from sunny Southern CA!

    Me too!

I just won an NB on ebay, a 2000 special edition, in burgundy. As best as I can make out the se was only in burgundy for 2000. It is a color that I like. Bright red is nice as well, as would be BRG with tan leather interior, but perhaps that should be an NA.

Don't care for black, silver or white, which certainly limited my choices. There is a metallic light blue that suites me rather well, but the only ones I saw were very low mileage, high priced examples. Nice though.

Funny story, my purchase was accidental. 24 hours before the end of bidding the bid was $2500. Now that I can afford. I bid and was out bid by the other guy's max bid. I chased him to $2625 when he quit. Now I really should not have done any of that, my wife did not want me to buy a new toy. But I was sure that there would be a flurry of bids in the last minute, so I was safe? As it happened, nobody else bid. Look at 2000 Miatas in completed auctions NOW. and you will see my new car.

It has an aftermarket air cleaner, which I am going to need to put back to stock to pass smog. I have a line on the plastic components of the air cleaner at a keen price, I am just worried that elements of the electrics may have been cut off. Which would be a pisser.

Anyway, the NB needs a new timing belt, so it gets one and a new water pump, and while I have the system drained of course a thermostat. I am inclined to set the valves while I have the valve cover off. I'll certainly measure them while they are exposed.

I wonder if just removing the camshafts is as easy a way to get at the shims as is using a compressor, assuming that I can find one?

Anyway, that is a beginning. Oh, I had been haunting auctions for an MR2, but none of them were priced anything as cheap as a Miata. I think that Mazda made lots more Miatas than Toyota did MR2s.
