Yeah, that's the issue...they start to degrade where you don't get a misfire, but the combustion isn't very good. It starts sending a lot particulates into the cat(s) and fouls them. Of course, the cats on the NB are integrated into the mid-pipe, so rather than just changing the cat, a full mid-pipe and cat is needed. Having just installed a new cat/MP on this car, I wanted to make sure it would stick around for a while AND get a little more reliable ignition for what I do with this thing.

I just ran a errand at lunch, the car runs a bit more refined. I noticed the throttle response as being smoother and the power curve feels a little fatter, no really any noticeable increase. I did about 20 miles, street and highway. I was seeing exhaust soot on my bumper before, so I'll monitor it to see if this alleviates some of that.

Well there goes my refund. Looks like along with brakes, I have to grab a mid-pipe and might as well grab the coils too and get it done all at once. Inspection is coming in April. Would you recommend the O2 sensors also?

Anthony, let me check the old car before you buy. I *may* have a nearly new set that I installed prior to the part-out.

I was actually looking at the Fab9 kit also but let me know if you do have them.

Anthony, you may want to just monitor the health of your coils periodically (google), and keep a known good spare. Aftermarket OE replacements are inexpensive, but sketchy. If the COPs are worth it to you and what you do with the car, make the decision. As for the O2s, your call. If budget is a concern, don’t replace them unless you have/want to.

Well that and a good tester. Almost all automotive electrical devices are measured in Ohms. In my buddy’s case, the coils measured fine but the cutouts were sporadic and I finally traced the problem down to a loose connector at a harness by the firewall. I mean the plug was firm but the individual wire connector inside the plug was loose.

Yeah, a decent multi-tester is probably one of the top five most important tools for these cars. The other four? 10, 12, 14, 17mm wrench or socket.

    I did a thing.

Squeezed in some oil changes tonight. Engine and differential.

No big deal on the engine. The diff had the fill and drain hulk-smash tight. Had to flex out my guns to get them off. Naturally, I forgot to put my gloves on and wound up punching the LCA yolk on the subframe when the fill broke loose, and I started leaking a bit. Some minor first aid and I wrapped up the job.

I went for a test drive because I haven’t driven the car much the past few weeks. The rebuilt shifter, fresh oils, new spark plugs and COPs, it’s all starting to feel like a flossy-fresh machine! Also got to enjoy a huge super moon on the drive, beautiful!

My blood brings the boys. They’re hounds and they love the smell of blood. What can I do?

Funny you should mention it, I do need to do that. The only thing that make a clutch pedal adjustment worse is trying to do it over doorbars like the NA had. This one should be easy.

    I did a thing.

Pause in the action to tackle some garage/storage upgrades and improvements. My garage is a converted carport. It’s sheetrocked, insulated, very nice, but it’s a *little* shorter than most.

It is lacking three key components: floor space, lights, and work surfaces. There is one four tube fluorescent light near the front, so I’m constantly losing items I drop on the ground. The windows face north, so while light does come through, it’s not a lot.

I found some LED shop lights on sale, and I bought a bunch. I converted the old light to a ceiling mounted outlet and hung the new units. They can be daisy chained so installing two pairs was pretty simple. I added a fifth under existing shelves where I work.

I’m really happy with the increased brightness.

I’m currently working on freeing up floor space. There are too many items on the ground around the perimeter. I also need a work bench.

I took fairly comprehensive measurements and quickly modeled up the garage so I could space plan the area and stay on budget. I was going to build my own custom work bench, but it was a wash on money buying one. It saved a lot of time, which is important with spring coming soon.

I took down the existing racking and moved them into the basement storage area. I have heavy duty wall-mounted shelves ready to hang. I also purged and recycled a lot of spare parts from the NA and the NB’s former interior too. I need to get this wrapped up this weekend.

The tall cabinet fit perfectly and will store gardening items my wife uses, aerosol cans, and car wash items. It will take a lot of small items on the existing shelves above the workbench.

The new workbench is 72x30, 39” H. It’s modular, so I may add a drawer of two under it. It’s covered with bins now, but those will go on the yet-to-be-installed shelves. The air compressor fits easily under it. I have a 4” vice to mount to it.

Moving the tool chest to the center helps free walking clearance around the front of the cars. I would like to add a topper chest to help organize my tools better. The lawn mower fits exactly how the model shows, so it’s coming together well!

    I did a thing.

    Shit escalated quickly...

I need to move an existing shelf, mount the bikes higher, hang two more shelves off to the side, hang the utility rack. Should wrap that up tomorrow, then organize my work area.

Oh, and my new dip stick arrived!

That’s much better in the garage. I’m always wishing I had nother 10 feet here and there plus a tall ceiling so I could get a lift. Then I realized I need a good outdoor shed to cure all my overflow problems. We don’t have basements in Florida and climbing up to the attic is torture.
