Anyone tried installing recaro seats into Miatas?

    Hi everyone,
I thought of installing a set of Recaros into my Miata, or maybe some other cool racing seats... You know, not that chinese s##t, something really cool. So registered here thinking maybe someone can give me a good idea on what cool car seats to pick?
Because I like Recaros, yet I am not sure our interior is wide enough to fit two of these....
Please let me know what you know about this interior mod.
    Thanks.

Welcome! There are a bunch of quality bucket seats out there available for Miatas; the Recaros that came into the RS NAs as well as the Spirit R RX7 FDs are such an example, albeit stupid rare and expensive. I have seen reclining Recaros fitted as well, not sure of which particular model though. Lotus Elise ones fit like a glove and are quite popular too.

Of course you then have tailor made options, like Corns or Nakamae.

Regarding race seats, there are a few things to know:

What size are you? How low do you want to sit in the car? What other modifications have you done to the body? Do you intend for the seat to be fixed or on sliders?

There are few race seats that drop in the the Miatas because of the narrow cabin. If you are small, you will find some fairly inexpensive, FIA-certified sits that will fit nicely. If you are medium to large, you will likely have to modify the seat and or floor/transmission tunnel to make it fit, especially on LHD versions. Be aware of how wide the shoulder bolsters flare out, too, because they can interfere with the doors and make then difficult to close.

I've got a pair of Recaro SR-7 SK100s in the Aizawa car. They're very comfortable and fit well despite real constraints (rollbar with legs down the back of the seats)

Wow, thank you guys for all the pics that you posted for me. I've heared about Lotus seats, but you know, I thought that Recaros are kinda made specifically for my Miata...

The NA/NB Miata is one of the most popular tuner platforms of all time and someone, somewhere has fit every seat imaginable. There are literally THOUSANDS of Miatas fitted with Recaro seats, both factory and aftermarket options. Recaro makes dozens of different seats and I'm sure you can find several that will satisfy your wants. I'll echo what Kung Fu said. So much depends on what your particulars like physical size, budget, desires, etc. I recommend you sit in the seat you want first before buying then decide how much effort your willing to put into making them fit the car, because very few seats are direct fit.

Personally, I love the ASM Recaros but I'm too fat for all of them. I'm too tall for Pole Positions and Profi (harness slots are way too low for my long torso). For me, I'll probably go with some wide & tall Racetechs that I install only for track events. To fit them to my car properly, I will be lowering the floor pan and sectioning the transmission tunnel so the seat is mounted very low and centered relative to the steering wheel.

    Go to http://www.autobacs-asm.com/user_voice/recaro/index.cgi
    and select ロードスター
to see all the ASM Recaros fitted to Mazda Miatas.

I use a kevlar OMP Grip seat on GarageStar mounts. I had to massage the transmission tunnel with a hammer a little to make it fit. I also had to trim a little off the front thigh boster lip and the left shoulder bolster lip to get it to clear my door bars, rollbar and door. I only use this seat when I go to the track, about 4-6X year.

Devin, what are your measurements? A lot of seats can be difficult to find in stock to "test" if they fit you. Where are you located?

The Lotus Seat on the RyokuRob bracket sit pretty low. The only drawback is that there is no slide feature. To some that may not be a drawback but for me with Beatrush latches, it makes it a pain to remove the hardtop. Things to keep in mind also.

The LS Recaro seats don't really fit a Miata if you are over 5'6". The shoulder bolster will contact the body if you move it back far enough to get the legroom desired.

The Lotus Elise seats similarly have fitting issues. Yes, they fit the car. Yes, they fit low enough to get some headroom. But, if you are so tall you NEED the headroom, you won't like what they do with your legroom. They gain that headroom by pushing your hips forward, placing your knees around the steering wheel.

There are some shell-style racing seats that fit. And others that fit with a little massage to some of the soft interior panels (no metal cutting). But if you are fairly tall, and want to fit inside the car with a helmet, then you will most likely be cutting off the stock seat mounting humps to get the seat to fit properly.
