Jacking an NB

Which I imagine applies equally to NAs.

I have only two books on Miatas: the Haynes manual, and Tanner's Find it. Fix it. Trick it.

Tanner recommends lifting the front of the car by the front crossmember, which is OK by me.

But he recommends lifting the rear of the car by the differential. Which sounds alarming to me.

My question is: Have YOU ever lifted your car by the differential? Without damaging anything?

Yes, I’ve jacked the rear of my Miatas using the diff. No problem.

I usually use the reinforced pinch welds. Really need to get that FM jacking tool.

If I use the diff, I use a piece of wood as the buffer. The carrier is aluminum, the center is iron.

i used a hockey puck, cut a groove into it so that it seats nicely on the pinch welds and use that with the car jack to jack it up

Over the years I have always used a hockey puck on surfaces that are close to flat.

For lifting at the pinch weld search "Miata jack pad" on eBay and you will get a lot of choices.
I bought one similar as the picture. It is thicker than a hockey puck. They work great.
Pricey but worth it.

I had to buy 4 of these so I could use them with my Quickjack Lift.
Now if I could only get my car back I could be using them!
