    Mental For Sale

The Mental Project rolling chassis, $10,000

    Located in 92677

Sold as is, no engine or transmission.

Can include the supercharger for an additional $5000
Can include the FMIC and tubing for $1500 (included with supercharger)
    Custom Squaretop, $1000

Completely custom build. Thanks to PB the build thread has no pictures.
Chassis is not the best. Had a partial front clip replacement and the front panels do not line up well.
Also has signs of a small tap in the rear.
Windshield Header is slightly bent and does not seal to the top as well as I would like.
Started out as a 91 BRG

    Exterior:
Razer Blue Paint, OEM on 2005 Miata and the ND. Not the best paint job, but still looks good.
Carbon Miata Flares. Tub cut to fit 245 tires and will fit 275 on 12" wheels (if they ever come out.)
Polished lights except for front turn markers (replaced after polishing) Rear side marker is damaged.
    Jetstream headlights with LED bulbs
Autokonexion trunk with locks. Fitment sucked, sub caused it rattle badly
    APR mirrors
    R package lip, not OEM
Black chrome on all chrome bits. Also have a set of 9" 6UL that are black chrome plated
    Hard top, no soft top
Aerocatches with locks. Hood release deleted

    Under hood:
    Complete hidden wiring harness
    Fuel lines hidden
    Brake lines hidden
    Vacuum lines hidden
Brake booster painted to match body
Everything else painted with smoke gray from Home Depot
    Tein hood props
Custom hot side reroute with radiator, tubing, and rear thermostat housing
    Radiator block off plate
    Can include the valve cover
Custom Toyota COP setup with wiring
    Wired for EBC
JR CARB legal header for 94-98
Setrab Oil cooler with fan controlled by Megasquirt

    Chassis
    NB2 subframes and suspension bits
    GEN 1 XIDA recently rebuilt
    Frog Arms
    Frame rails
    Foam filled front clip
    Foam filled front subframe
    Rollbar with doorbars
All suspension bits were stripped, primed and painted in smoke grey
    Sport brakes
    3.63 torsen
    Beatrush undertray
NB2 fuel tank (think about how hard that was)

    Electronics:
LED lighting in header trim switched by NB light
    LED lighting under dash
NO OEM controls in the interior
Dash Tablet for watching Megasquirt, playing music, and NAV
BT Infinity Amp with 4 speakers. 12" sub with 1000+ watt amp
    ABS in the trunk
Main fuse block in the trunk
    Battery disconnect in the trunk
Custom engine harness runs under car
Megasquirt PRO (older one) with E85 sensor
Turn signals wired into steering wheel with deleted column controls

    Interior:
    Carbon door cards from Japan
    Carbon door sills from Japan
    (Can't remember who did them.)
    Carbon Miata door handles
    Console delete
Kirkey racing seats. Needs back braces and I never got around to doing them. Great for taller people
4 point Schroth Harnesses. Will include sub belts, but these are the anti-submarine belts.
Went wild with sound deadening. Doors don't feel like Miata doors.
    Neilex door handles
    Power windows that work
NB gauges with speed correction thing
Custom gauges read to 180 mph (theoretically doable with enough power)
Fancy trim ring things with individual glass. Can't remember the brand.

Buy this, drop your engine in it, show it off. I want to do something else.

I am old. Probably forgot a bunch of stuff. Will be parting it out in a week or two if nobody wants the whole thing. If it goes to part out I will be keeping some of it... the only way to get all of it is to buy as is.

Yeah, tough call. I need to take a picture of the #1 intake valves. You can see them laying on top of the piston. Crazy amount of debris, oil and water in the intake.

Doubt it will sell anyways. If it does, I go buy a ND.

If not maybe I part it out. Or BAR it as a 2005.... or go for left field.

    Ecotecmiata swap, Ohh yeah!
    Mine is close to completion.

If you are racing it, inquire about the new kit with the Pontiac Solstice AR5 transmission. It utilizes the PPF and should take a beating. It also eliminates the need for a flywheel & transmission adapter.
This swap should give you the power & torque while being reliable at the track.

Really sad to see I may sound like a broken record but a part out is always the best route to recoupe money and the least hassle, imo.

Damn this car looks so good. Good luck with sale. I’d like the xidas if you part the car out

It will be getting transformed into something completely different. I will start a thread on it when I get closer to starting the project. I am thinking Q4 this year before I have time outside of the two cars I have to build for work. It will remain a street car.

None of the driveline will be reused. I have already sold the differential off and am waiting for the next 949 Racing / Supermiata garage sale to finish parting it out.

Will not need the dash (none of it), any of the wiring harness, chassis stiffening, roll bar, door bars... Will be keeping the doors and all parts associated with them.

I will start a thread on stuff to sell after the garage sale.

FWIW, it looks like the VVT actuator failed and over advanced (or retarded) the engine to the point of massive valve and piston interference. Nothing was reusable.

I think the ones in my avatar are. I had a set done in black chrome that is awesome looking. And then we put 10's on it... now if someone comes out with a 275 street tire I will go 11" 12's won't fit my flares.

As one of the few folks fortunate enough to drive this cars, it was simply one of my favorite Miatas ever. As you might guess, I have driven a lot of Miatas. The power, resonse and torque of the Rotrex with thattall gearing makes it just effortless in traffic. So fast and unruffled. Chassis, wise, there are many hour into stiffening and damping things that normally rattle in old NA's> Mental was just about as tight as an ND. Just solid, quiet and shake free. The tub alone is going to make someone dream car. The Xida setup was something Me, Sonny and John developed over a few iterations. Plush, low and responsive.

Beyond all the functionality and performance stuff that I get excited about, is all the exquisite detail that John loves building into his projects. We'll miss this car but like all projects, eventually its time to move onto some thing new. In John's case, I think I have a name for it.. Madness

I kinda like like the sound of that. It is going to be a big enough change that even though the chassis is the same it deserves a new name. Madness it is.

We can rebuild it stronger, stiffer, and faster than before. The $6M Miata. Madness.

Hopefully I can squeeze a couple of hours out next month to start a build thread on Madness. This time it will start with CAD drawings of the fabrication before I send it off to Renderos Racing for some serious cutting and welding.
