My experience the RSpeed (look like the ones in the ebay link posted) are the ones that raise the back of the hood.

Refer back to post #6 by Rotornut, if you do not use the revised instructions " 3. When you remove the rear set of fender bolts (to clear space for the struts), DO NOT install the included with the kit replacement bolts. Just leave it with no bolts there. If you install the replacement bolts (regardless these being lower profile) the struts will still be touching the bolts when the hood is closing and it will make the hood deflecting up thus opening a bad looking gap." the back of the hood well have raised gap.

I did it this way. Actually had 2 RSpeed kits over the years on 2 different Miata. Both kits raised the back of the hood somewhat.

    Others may have different results.

Wonder if anyone else has done the RSpeed and have a fix for this gap thing?

The RSpeed struts came on my NB when I bought it and at the time it did have a noticeable gap. I came across those instructions while searching for a fix and it removed the gap. I'm guessing it's one of those YRMV sort of things though.

All i can think of is it must be the bracket that bolts to the underside of the hood. Idk though.

Either way, hood struts > oem prop rod

You just made me think of something to add to the post I made just a minute ago: I didn't use any of the washers at the hood hinge. Just hinge->plate->nut. Never had a problem with them coming loose either.

I think I ground down the fender bolts on mine so that the struts wouldn’t touch.

Here is my FM/IL kit. Seems to very slightly lift back of hood. Not enough for me to ever really notice.

Looks like the FM kit utilizes the last bolt hole for their struts while everyone else uses the first to the last bolt and longer struts. I was trying to recover some old photos to rebuild my washer bottle thread when I spotted this photo of my engine bay. I had forgotten that I replaced all my fender bolts with more decorative fender washers and SS Allen bolts for a flush fit. I didn't have any interference problem or hood lifting after that.
