    Fender Flare Mounting Options

I just ordered a CCP widebody kit for my 2003. While I wait the 2-3 weeks to receive it, I'm mulling over the options for mounting. In particular, I'm wondering about the fenders flares, which have the typical small pockets and visible screw/bolt heads. So...

    1. What kind of anchors to use? I was thinking of rubber well nuts, but nut-serts would be an option, too. I don't really like the idea of just screwing them to the sheet metal underneath.

    2. What bolts? I'm unsure how much bearing surface I need on the bolts. Do I just want some 6mm pan head bolts (allen or Torx), or do I need some kind of panel washer for additional bearing surface? Or would panel washers look stupid?

    3. Bolt color? Yeah, I know that's a personal preference sort of thing. My car is white, so I'm leaning toward stainless rather than black bolts.

    4. Fender welting? Needed, optional or a bad idea? I like the idea of protecting the paint from the sharp edge of the flare rubbing against it. Also, I understand that they can help even out gaps where the flares meet the fenders. I'm not sure about the look of the black line edging the flare.

Anyway, any advice or experience would be appreciated.

I used rivnuts with stainless Allen head bolts to attach mine. There is some minor "fitting" but not a big deal. My car was vinyl wrapped so I didn't use welting. Not sure how it would look

Thanks Unk577. I was debating weather well nuts would be fine or if rivnts were a better idea. Mine is not a race car, but I'd hate to have something fly off while I'm driving, lol!

I think I might try the welting. I can just take it off if I end up not liking it.

BTW, what size wheels and tires did you go with?

I like that kit! That might be just the ticket. I'll definitely post up pics when I do the install.

+1 for the GS fender flare bolt kit. I use that kit on my car and I've taken the fenders flare on and off a couple times since I went with flares.

    I ran a 17X9.75 on the street and a 15X10 on track

Don't pay for that Garage Star kit. That is just rivnuts and stainless Allen bolts, much cheaper through McMaster-Carr

Good call! I always see if I can get fasteners cheaper a la cart before I order any kind of kit.

Do I need a bolt with an extended flange bolt or a washer under the bolt, or is the bolt head on a standard rounded head M6 bolt large enough on its own?

Oh, what length bolt is needed?

Unk577, the bolts holding on the flares on the CCP kit are the only ones that appear to be exposed. What type of fasteners did you use for the side skirts?
