    My Trip

If any you have been following my questions I was asking in the NC sub forum, I was picking up a 2007 NC from my brother in Portland OR. It had 23000 miles and original tires. He had the car serviced and check out and I got new tires and was on my way.

200 miles into the trip back to St Louis the check engine light comes on. The car ran fine but I was concern obviously. I stopped at a Dealer in Boise Id, and was told it was a thermostat failure. Offered to look at it the next day but said the cost might be approx $800. I made a decision to just keep on going and if I overheated so be it.

Made it back to St Louis approx 2000 mikes with no further issues. I took it to the dealer here and they said said about $300. The trip back was fun but didn't see much scenery, cause I was checking the temperature gauge every 5 minutes. Was a fun ride thru the rockies, but I was glad to get back home.

Look forward to many more drives and it's a fun car.

Don't know yet. Plan on taking it in sometime next week. The code just said thermostat failure. Will update after I get it fixed.

    Congrats!

Is the NC temperature gauge actually linear or a cold/running temp/overheating dummy gauge? It is a shame manufacturers gave into people's ignorance and stopped(for most vehicles) using real linear gauges instead of educating consumers.

Ok now I'm really confused. The check engine light that has been on for 1800 miles getting back to St Louis has now gone off. The temp has never gotten above mid range. Could it be that the thermostat (that is the code thermostat failure) is just shut open and the warmer temps of today made the CEL go off. I'm schedule for a appt next Monday. I'm not sure to cancel it.

Probably a bad sensor or signal.

Maybe the engine has been running too cold. The warmer weather allowed it to run warmer.
I would change the thermostat, temperature sensor, and fresh anti-freeze at the same time. Consider it maintenance while at the same time using the work as a troubleshooting tool.

I was thinking too that because the car has so few miles for its age, perhaps the t-stat stuck partially from build up and opened fine as you drove it more.
