    Hyperfest 2018

For those that don't know, Hyperfest bills itself as the largest autosports-related event on the east coast. It's taking place this weekend, Friday, May 18 - Sunday, May 20, at VIRginia International Raceway. There is racing, drifting, show car events, off-roading, karting, vendors, ride-alongs, more than you can shake a stick at. I'll be there, in Miata 33; anyone else going?

I stopped by and said hi to the guys, I think you were out at lunch or something. The Grey Miata you fielded out there this weekend was FAST.

We were very busy. Both cars had a splitter killing off on Friday. The Hypermiata was damaged badly enough that we adapted our spare to it. Ryan and I managed to repair both cars in time for Saturday's UTCC session, but it was raining and we bailed on it. Ryan went out but did not score a time due to a transponder issue. Lots of transponder issues for multiple teams. On Sunday both cars went sub 2:00. Bullet was a hair faster, but Hypermiata was missing a lot of expensive carbon aero.

Hopefully next time we get better weather.

HOLY COW! You gotta see these videos!

Ryan Passey in his Good Win Racing (forum sponsor) LFx-powered "HyperMiata":

"When we saw Sunday was going to be dry, both Emilio and I signed up to get some laps in that day. I couldn't run in TT because I don't yet have my NASA license. Sunday they squeezed me in to HPDE3, for which I was thankful - I was just happy to get to do some dry laps at VIR.

    In Session 3 I got a couple traffic-free laps and ran a 1:58.9
As ran that day, the car fits in TT1 with lots of room for more power or less weight, or it could be ballasted down to TT2, and in both classes it could have much better aero than what we were able to cobble together with spares.

Looking at TT results for Sunday:
    https://racehero.io/events/nasa-ma-v...c-2018/results
If I had ran TT I would have taken 3rd overall for the entire day, behind only two TTU cars (Dan Raver in the LS7 Superlight and Sonny in Bullet). Faster than every entry in TT1, TT2, etc."

Next up is Emilio Cervantes in the 949Racing "Bullet":

Here is Sonny dicing traffic in Bullet, watch him go plaid around 1:36:

Here is a neat perspective of Bullet from a Porsche 911 GT# (*wow!*), watch 0:00 to 2:30. It's amazing how violently Bullet corners!

    Yah, right?!

Watch the Challenger appear in the third video around 7:25. Look at it leave when it hits the long straight. Mind blown.

There was the one NB that got slightly nudged by the other car and I started to get Forza flashbacks online.

Yeah, I was really impressed with the speed of that Challenger when I watched that vid a couple days ago. Right at the 8:00 mark it just disappears.

It was approx 10 seconds a lap faster than we were. He also claimed to only have $22k in it.

We think we were having boost control issues and may have been down on power. Will know for sure when the car gets back and we can get back to the dyno.

I talked to Sonny about that car a little. He mentioned the pricing, I called BS. That might be close to the price of the ENGINE, but not the car. Showed the video to a friend of mine in NC who is pretty deep in the industry around Charlotte, he thinks it's stuffed with an Xfinity series driveline.

The pace for both Bullet and Hyper is stunning. Really bad luck with the weather and all, still impressive results.

It is! You can pass those V8 pony cars and BMWs in the corners with most Miatas, but to walk away with authority on the straights is unreal. Don’t forget, in that last video the in-car shot is from a Porsche 911 GT3 and the red car is a Viper Competition Coupe!

I didn't recognize the Viper but I was wondering how the heck a Miata was passing everything on the track including BMW. I was watching the road and didn't even notice the view was from a Porsche.
