Excellent explanation IMO. Back in the day, I shortsightedly tried to help my dad with his Miata with high-performance this and poly that. What a miserable abomination of a daily driver I left him with. I hope he has more to do in the great beyond than payback.

A modified Miata can still be a ‘GT’ car without going to 11. It’s thoroughly enjoyable around town and extremely capable at HPDE. I took this approach with my NB and have been extremely happy with it.

I feel as though I’m learning more about my driving because I’m able to apply what I experience on the track to the streets and vice versa. It’s an apples to apples comparison. Working within limits is making me troubleshoot my technique flaws and (lack of) skill.
