    Speedometer cable question

    Question for you experts:

Is the plastic cup/bushing inside the transmission where speedo cable attaches vital and necessary?

For a visual, the cup I'm referring to looks like the plastic cup inside the shifter turret.

    Story:

In the process of replacing speedo cable tonight, as I was about to finish the install and attach cable to transmission, a small plastic cup (bushing) fell out. It is now MIA. I cannot find it. It must be somewhere stuck underneath the car, inside butterfly brace, PPF or garage floor.

If I cannot find this plastic cup, should I not install the cable?

    any help is appreciated!
