Thank you all but my head is getting too big to fit through the doorway. Very rewarding to receive your appreciation. It really makes my week and makes me want to post more mods.

What would be cool is to see some of your own variations on the theme as I love viewing them for inspiration.

Great mods! I actually added a couple of 12V outlets to my FJ cruiser (it only had one ). I was thinking of adding another one or 2 to my NA 1.6 so I can run the GPS, radar detector and charge an iPod/iPhone at the same time. The console solution is nice for charging the iPhone but I still need to find suitable spots in the dash area for the other outlets.

    Looks great! Awesome work!

PS: Do those lights blind the passenger at all?

I don't know. Haven't tested it that way. I would suppose it all has to do with how tall the passenger is and how far you open the lid because it opens toward the passenger and forms a kind of block. Really though, since I'm the one driving, it's more important that I don't get blinded. I suppose I could tell them to look away for a moment.

That is the Gearhead's Miata Club memebr for you. YellowYata, I defiantly doing to do this to my MSM. I love the write up. I never seen it before but very cool. Add more power to connect more things. Did you also install a bigger fuse?

Haha, thanks. Yes, spreadin' the Gearhead love on MR.

I used the stock Miata cigarette lighter socket and remember, it has it's own fusible link in case things go really wrong. But yes, since I ran a wire directly from the battery, I have a 5amp inline fuse a few inches away from the positive battery terminal.

Great write up Yellow. I am in the process of doing the lighter/power mod. My rear view mirror map lights provide more than enough light in the cabin. I did have a problem finding a small USB attachment/insert. Seems like most of them are huge, and stick out way to far. BTW, where did you get your double USB plug?

Thanks Jim. I think I got that double USB plug at Walmart. Check out the Kensington Powerbolt duo port somethingorother. It has the 2.1amp version for iPad charging. Not that you're going to charge an iPad but the more powerful charger will charge up a cell phone or iPud more quickly.

You didn't say you ran a wire from the battery.
A good place to tap for power is the nearby cigarette lighter wiring plug.
LOL. Anyways, If I do this mod, and tap the cigarette lighter for power, you think I need to bump the stock 20 amp fuse to a 25 amp or should I be fine.
