Great write up, makes it easy to follow.

I also prefer the longbolt method, I think that's just because that's what I got used to when I had to do a suspension swap way too many times in a span of 2 weeks, and by then it was just quicker to go with what I was used to.

The first couple times I used a spring compressor but then it got annoying so I just took off the main bolt at the top while having a jack hold the LCA up, unbolted the lower mounting bolt, swaybar, and longbolt on front or RUCA bolt in rear and then dropped the LCA, separating the shock/spring from the top hat. Then to put everything back in, if you're using your stock tophats, you just do the reverse, jack up the LCA and line up the shock with the hole in the tophat. Made things go really quickly.

Sunny from 949racing told me about this method and I was confused since I read in a book somewhere about the long bolt method. Any who, this write up is amazing, the pictures explain just about everything without really reading. Wish i could get under the car right now and just put my new toys in!!!!

This is the method I've always used to swap suspension and it works great. I can swap suspension with a floor jack and jack stands in less than an hour now.

Great write up Foo, and props for the detailed photos. Personally, I like the long bolt method. I understand the whole bent bolt thing, but, wouldn't you want to replace a bent bolt if you have one?

This step makes me dig deep into my native-norwegian vocabulary. Broke one screwdriver last night.
Any more detailed tip or just add more violence?

Reinstalling the lower balljoint to the control arm? I use a crowbar to pivot the lower arm close to where it should be. I slide in the tongue and put the bolt through the fore/aft lower balljoint hole. The tongue needs to sit flush to get that short 17mm bolt to begin to thread in correctly. I will put a screwdriver throught the ears that the shock bolts to there to keep the shock from dropping into the area where the 17mm short bolt goes.

Sometimes I have put a floor jack on the knuckle to hold the tongue flush to get that 17mm bolt in.

Is Foo Taylor? I helped him swap out engines last year. I thought he was going to sell it. I know he recently bought an '00-era E-class that he seems to be enjoying.
