    Mazda Water Painting Post Cards

Mazda is introducing it's "Mazda vehicle postcard" which was presented by Mikio Nakajima, who used to be a Mazda designer. Nakajima-san designed the great car RX-7 and other Mazda models for 40 years since 1971 and led the Mazda's car design. He has been water painting some Mazda models that he had strong feeling for. You will enter a gentle and nostalgic world when you see them.
We plan to start showing you his postcards, and we are happy to present the card of "Mazda 2nd ROADSTER of 1998." Nakajima-san says he has lots of memories on the model as he was one of the team members who worked on the pre-production design to decide the design theme. If you are looking for more please check out the Mazda Facebook page!
    Everyone, have a good weekend!

Here you can see Luce 4 Door Hard Top, Cosmo AP, and Savanna. Nakajima-san, who joined Mazda in 1971, has an emotional attachment to Cosmo as he participated in that project in his third year. The front grill design was adopted as a functional design to improve cooling performance of the rotary engine.
Back in those days, clay modeler was not yet an independent job and designers were drawing on the board and also creating clay models.

Here is the "1976 Grand Familia" as the third card we show to you. Nakajima san says this model is a memorable one for him, since it was the first facelift model he had worked for in his career.

Here is the 4th card, we are showing you the card of "1978 Mazda SAVANNA RX-7," for which Nakajima san himself participated in the design project. The first generation RX-7 was designed based on a sketch by a young designer. Nakajima san has nice memories of this model, as it was developed with an aim to give young people a chance to experience the joy of driving a sports car, hence Mazda adopted ideas to achieve a reasonable price throughout the development of this model.

This painting is of the 2002 Mazda Atenza. Nakajima-san tells us he created it as a nostalgic reminder for a close friend who was involved in the development of the first generation Atenza. You can find all of these on the Mazda Facebook page.

Here is the Mazda Savanna Coupe which was released in 1971, the same year Nakajima-san joined Mazda.
A colleague who also joined that year requested this picture.
In the background you can see France's Arc de Triomphe, which Nakajima-san's colleague visited with his wife.

This postcard by Mikio Nakajima features the Mazda Cosmo Sport (aka 110S) which recently enjoyed its 45th anniversary! When released, it featured beautiful, futuristic proportions and exceptional driving performance. Many who got behind the wheel of the Mazda Cosmo Sport were heard to comment, "More like flying than driving."

Here is the 1986 Luce (aka Mazda929). Nakajima-san participated in the design of its exterior and apparently it was difficult meet the class criteria because he wanted to create a spacious cabin and luggage compartment. He says he aimed to design the epitome of a sedan.
