Mazda Wants Jalopnik Readers To Help Create The Next Miata

Because, as Mazda puts it, "Jalopnik readers matter" and, also, because you all tend to answer "Miata" when presented with most questions anyways.

If you had ten minutes with the next Miata MX-5 development team, what would you tell them? What matters to you? What's critical to a Miata? What isn't?
Mazda will read all of your responses and, tomorrow, will respond to some of them for Answers of the Day. They'll also take all of the input and stuff it into the giant computer responsible for combining all the thoughts and dreams of all the world's enthusiasts into a car design. That's how it works… right?

Make your suggestions good so the next generation doesn't suck.

Shouldn't they be gearing up the factory for ND production already? Why are they now asking for input?

Market assessment? Could be to gauge how badly the current prototype may or may not be received and how to address its refresh when they inevitably get to it. lol

I swear to God all I want is a virgin NB1 fitted with 10ae options.

I honestly think that the only thing Miata owners want is a Miata similar to their own but no worse (heavier, flexier, expensiver) in any way. Mazda would already know this.

It is a little troubling, this request for feedback. This is similar to the CFGs they were doing during Miatafest in '10.

Mazda is losing money. They have no halo car. They openly acknowledge the NC was a mistake. I still believe the ND is a make it or break it product for them, meaning if it isn't a success, it will disappear from their lineup. It is possibly their last attempt to remain relevant in the market, too. There isn't much to write home about in their recent releases. They are B-grade manufacturer offering "me too" products. Sure some of them are really compelling. Their focus on driving fun, fuel economy and value is refreshing among a sea of isolated, rolling gaming machines, but I see little innovation beyond the performance numbers.

And why of all places are they asking Jalopnik? The Miata is not a car to be/or can be created by a committee, especially an internet committee.

I suspect, now, they are tempering the expectations. I just read Coleman's replies.

I posted that I would like to see a "Coupe" Option, another Mazdaspeed Option, and a R-Package, and give us more interior/exterior options, take a look at the MINI website, build a MINI has tons of factory options, Mazda needs this, people like to be different, just look at our community!

Why didn't they have a booth or something for this at the recent Karuizawa meet? Or maybe they did, I don't know.

Can you find me some links? Google returns nothing on search "mazda acknowledge nc miata mistake." Is it a sales-number thing or what?

Edit-- Obviously my google search won't likely return a result, but I'm curious to know more about this. I don't post here very much, please don't take this as trolling.

Everyone at the banquet at MRLS was given a survey to fill out pertaining to the next miata. Seems they're getting everyone's opinion.

Yeah, I tried to find the a couple articles I read about this. One was an interview. It wasn't direct, but alluded strongly to it. I sat in on a CFG (focus group) where one of the participants openly called the NC a failure. The mediator agreed, which didn't go over so well with the NC owners in there.
