I'd like to see wider tires, 200 naturally aspirated HP and a turbo version (call it Mazdaspeed if you wish) with 200+ HP. A cool version would be a stripped down, track-ready type car like the new Z/28.

    Mmmmmm. Yeah. Sounds good too.

Btw. On the other hand, it's already supposed to be light weight.

I would like to see, basically, a modernized NA.

The same design philosophy of simplicity and reliability but with modern materials and manufacturing processes. I don't think it needs more power or more grip, just a little more lightness. Just imagine how fun an aluminum block, aluminum chassis miata with carbon fiber body work could be. They'd have to drop a lot of creature comforts to keep the price low. Or maybe the carbon fiber would be an option.

So Mazda should build an Elise.

Not necessarily, I feel like the Lotus' goal was a very grippy car when they built the Elise. I think Mazda has maintained a fun, easy to drive design that is less focused on grip.

The appeal of the miata to me is it's very low limits. You don't have to drive fast to get good feedback from the car. On a twisty road you can drive at the speed limit...ish and the car will move around enough to allow you to learn a lot about how cars respond to your inputs. I think the Elise is a bit too hardcore to provide this kind of education.

A coupe might just be enough to seal the deal.

I like roadsters but never liked top down motoring (thus my hardtop is on 24/7/365).
