Post Pre-Order your ND Miata for 2013?

    http://www.biggersmazda.com/2013-mazda-mx-5-miata.htm

Biggers Mazda is Excited to Announce the Upcoming 2013 Mazda MX-5 for Residents in Elgin, Schaumburg, St. Charles, and Bartlett

Biggers Mazda is happy to announce the upcoming 2013 Mazda MX-5 Miata to drivers in Elgin, Schaumburg, St.Charles, and Bartlett who are looking for a sporty vehicle that's lightweight and fun to drive. Mazda's intention this year is to make the Miata lighter so that the total weight is less than 2,200 lbs. A lighter vehicle can help reduce drag and makes the car more fuel-efficient.

Expected Features of the 2013 MX-5 Miata

Expected design changes include a redesigned grille that looks much more attractive and modern along with a streamlined look for the headlights. Drivers in Elgin and Schaumburg can expect a more attractive, sleeker look in the 2013 edition of the Mazda MX-5 Miata. As for the powertrain, the Miata is equipped with a 1.5L 4-cylinder engine that produces 125 hp with a standard 6-speed manual transmission. Drivers in St. Charles and Bartlett will be pleased to learn that it will feature rear-wheel drive.

The 2013 Mazda MX-5 Miata is expected to exhibit some of the same features of its predecessor; however, fuel economy may improve from its current 22 mpg city/28 mpg highway if it takes on a much lighter design. The 2012 Miata comes in three trims: Sport, Touring, and Grand touring. Some of the standard interior features include:
    Sirius XM radio
    Auxiliary audio input jacks
    Rear window defogger with timer
    Leather-wrapped steering wheel
    Tilt steering

Cruise control is available on Touring and Grand Touring models. Bluetooth connectivity is offered as an option on the Grand Touring model. The 2013 Mazda Miata is speculated to be out in showroom floors some time in late 2012, but no official release date has been announced. Additionally, no official price has been announced, but you can expect it be in line with the current model.

Hey man, the 1.6 had 100 horses, this is a 1.5 with 125. Add on a smaller diff and 6 speed transmission and this thing could zip around.... if it exists. But I think a 1.5l with a turbo would be cool.

comparing the B6 to the skyactiv isn't really apples to apples.

All I know is what I heard around SOCAL, where Mazda R&D is. The engineers were pulling their hair out keeping the weight down, but the last I heard they were successful. I have read reports to confirm that, too. The engine was a different story. There were more rumors around there about what was going to be used. When Mazda floated the press releases about the Skyactiv engines, it reached a fever pitch. There was talk of the larger engine being used, but the exhaust manifold wouldn't fit. There was a turbo rumor floating around for a long time too, but that soon died down. The 1.5 was the sensible answer. Yeah, it's sounds weak, but a car at 2200 with a 14:1 comp ratio, direct injection, useable torque curve should be pretty good! I think it also lends Mazda an opportunity to differentiate the model trims a bit more, maybe, by introducing different engine options within the skyactiv family. I think it will also make for some REALLY interesting Mazdaspeed models as such.

Some endurance racing teams were getting giddy about transplanting a skyactive diesel in the new chassis (torque, light weight car, fuel economy).

We will all have to wait, I guess, Mazda is being uncharacteristically tight-lipped about this car. I think it's good to do so.

They need to drop in the 1.6 turbo diesel from the (overseas) mazda2. That could be interesting.

This is actually inline with what I have heard from people close to Mazda R&D about the powerplant:

    "UPDATE 03/19/2012
    : According to
    Road & Track
, there has been some talk within the Mazda camp to fit the next-gen MX-5 with a turbocharged engine. As it turns out, Mazda’s initial plan of fitting a naturally aspirated 1.5-liter inline-4 engine with SkyActiv technology isn’t generating the kind of power they’d want for the new MX-5. The Japanese automaker also ran the idea of using the current 2.0-liter inline-4 engine, but that would mean scrapping whatever
    fueleconomy
goals they had for the new model. With a lot of the powertrain options being crossed of their list, Mazda now has two finalists: a 1.8-liter inline-4 with SkyActiv or a 1.3- or 1.5-liter inline-4 with forced induction.Whatever powertrain they end up choosing, Mazda is looking at a car that’s not only lighter than the current model, but also one that’s capable of delivering 150 horsepower while also improving its fuel economy by around 10% - and do all that while keeping the car’s price at less than $25,000."

In my mind that is similar to an NA6 with about 6 psi of F/I, but with the useable torque of a mapped VVTi 1.8 BP4W.

Nonetheless, I'd like to see what they have for the final product. This will be interesting

I will wait a couple of years of it being out before I can plunge into one. Just to make sure most of the kinks are worked out.
