NA6CE 1992 Form vs Function Build and History

I don't replace them. I use an impact wrench to pull them down. If the splines are biting into the spacer, it's good. Reverse, I back the long bolts out to make sure the threads are clear, then re-thread them in until the bolt heads are about 3/8" inch below the bottom of the PPF and hit the heads with a mallet. That pops the captive nuts out the top. This isnt't a concours build, never will be. Never had an issue reusing them. This is the fourth time the diff has been R/R'd on this car.

    Thanks!

You mentioned that you had seen PPF's crack. And that was the reason for my query.

    You are the Man!

Still doing HPDEs? Hope to have a second FIA seat and second 6-point incoming. Will you teach and old soul the ropes?

I think the cars that use R comps and see a lot of track time develop the cracks.

Yes, still doing HPDE. The Charlotte Roval is this time next month. Road Atlanta in September, AMP in October. Perhaps one or two more in between.

I have a driver upgrade I hope arrives before Charlotte. More on that later.

Diff feels lovely. It definitely woke up the engine a bit. There are some decent, long hills near me and the car pulls up them more eagerly, it doesn't fall on its face upshifting while climbing like the 4.1 felt like. There are some subtle differences between this T2 and the previous T1 that I'm trying to put my finger on. I like this car back under a 4.3 like it originally came with. The traction in the wet is a lot better than the old 4.3 VLSD. I guess between the 4.1 T1 and the 4.3 T2, the T1 felt a little more like it was going to understeer going into a corner. The T2 feels a bit more stable on decel, but not as noticeable on accel. The T1 felt firm in accel, of that makes any sense.

More testing around town. The car is truly point and shoot. Getting into a tight corner too fast, the new brakes are easy to modulate, and the new gearing digs the car out in acceleration nicely, I can feel the extra power the new engine has. It really feels like the car is coming together and I'm glad.

New driver upgrades! I get my ass kicked in the afternoons at the tracks during the summer. This sale came up for a driver cooling system, and I jumped on it. I like the compact sizing and price, some other drivers I knew used it and liked it. It's an Ultrachiller 400. It was on sale for $299 versus $599 and that is about what it would cost me for a Cool Shirt and a DIY container and pump. The owner of Ultrachiller was awesome to get this to me on time and is willing to extend the sale of this unit to anyone interested. It's a great value! I have the 16" container. At his suggestion, I ordered a Drake QR fire extinguisher bracket to mount the container to my rollbar.

The shirt is one size smaller than I wear to keep the tubes closer to my skin.

I made a simple circuit with an on/off toggle switch next to the FSS pull on the dash.

Time is limited to prep for this event, so I mounted the quick release bracket to the container and the other half to the rollbar. It works great and will be easy to remove if/when I need to refresh the ice.

So, how this works is I fill the cylinder/container with ice and water, mount it in the car. I plug in the power and run the tubes to the driver seat. The connectors on the tubes are dry disconnect, so when I disconnect them from the shirt, no water spills out from them or the shirt. The connectors snap together easily and disconnect easily. If I dry to exit the car in a hurry (fire) they will disconnect from tension so I'm not tethered dangerously to the car. When I turn on the switch, the pump pumps the cold water through the tubes sewn onto the shirt and circulates it back to the container. I tried it out the night installed it. My garage is insulated, so when my wife parks her car in there in the evening, it heats up pretty quickly from the engine. It was about 87 degrees in there and humid (because the South). The cold water was extremely effective cooling my core and felt great! It's an interesting sensation feeling the cold water track through the tubing. I think this will help a LOT while I'm wearing all my gear at the track.

    That looks awesome!

I should be there after 12pm as I have a sneaker release that I will be hitting before I drive up.

    Cool! (pun intended)

Would love to try one of these out, as trackdays in the summer are pretty much prohibitive here with 35-40deg celsius outside; let alone with a full gear on.

Harry, those are the temps we see here in the thick of the season, but it's also pretty humid much of the time. In SOCAL, most of the tracks are in the desert, so 30-45 Celsius is pretty common.

NA6CE 1992 Form vs Function Build and History

Charlotte Motor Speedway was awesome! I wish I had more time to talk to Anthony, but with three run groups I had less time between sessions. I logged about 130 minutes of seat time and had a blast!

We ran 95% of the NASCAR oval, diving in to the infield road course before Turn 1 and exiting that back onto the oval's Turn 2. It was a lot more technical than I was expecting. The oval, well I have a lot more respect for the NASCAR drivers. It wasn't as smooth as I was expecting, more bumps and undulations than other NASCAR tracks I've been on (MIS and Autoclub).

In my car, 1.6 with a 5sp and 4.3 rear, I was grabbing 5th gear at 7100 RPMs just before entering the oval's Turn 3 around 100mph or so, diving low towards the apron on Turn 4 and the accelerator flat on the floor exiting. The fastest I saw was 115 mph through the dogleg at the start/finish flagging tower. After that, it was hard on the brakes to dive into the roadcourse and catch everybody who passed me (in more powerful cars) on the oval.

I had a few faster guys following me just to watch my lines on the infield and my braking point coming off the oval. I was braking way later than more cars on the oval it spooked a few cars following me. I surprised a 370z who passed me at 100+ because he lifted and began braking early for the roadcourse. I was still flat on the floor in 5th

I passed a few Challengers, a Corvette, Porsche Boxster, Impreza RS, and a few other other in the roadcourse. If I defended my line, I hardly used my brakes through there.

When the night came and the lights turned on, it was super-surreal and the sensation of flatout speed was amplified by the shadows and glare of all the lights, but it was also cool as hell!

I was still only on my 195/60-14 Falkens.

The car only used 8 oz of oil in all that wide-open,high RPM, rev limiter-banging driving, I was very pleased.

The drive to and from Charlotte was also a breeze with the air conditioner and cruise control working great. I hope to have pictures soon!
