That strip is meant to insulate the cowl where the HVAC intake is. It keeps hot air from the engine bay out.

Correct, but what I was referring to was putting the strip under the cowl cover.

So with the whole stay at home thing, I got pretty bored. So I bought the Automotive Touchup paint for my NB and some 2K clear and went to work on my mirrors that were just horrible.

Here is a picture with the mirrors off and the hardtop up in the air:

I did install the Project G G-String Bikini Top but it was only to test fit it since the weather was warmer and the vinyl could stretch pretty easy. It also helped with reversing since I didn't have the mirrors on the car. Not long after I put the mirrors back on the car, the hardtop went back on also. Too much pollen in the air so I wanted to avoid having my interior covered in yellow dust.

Here are the mirrors taped up and getting ready to be primed:

Close up of what I was trying to cover:

    First coat of primer:

    After 3 coats of primer:

    First coat of base:

    After 5 coats of base:

After a light coat of 2K clear:

After 7 coats of 2K clear:

    Installed on the car:

If you look closely at the pics, I had a small run on one of the mirrors. The wind kicked up just as I started spraying and messed me up. I may be able to wetsand it and then buff it but if it doesn't come out, whatever. I also didn't fix the small rock chips due to 1. Being lazy and 2. I didn't want the mirrors out shining the rest of the car. The car is daily driven (for the most part) and has rock chips and small imperfections so I look at it like it's part of the car's personality. I just hated the fact that the paint had peeled so I have some paint on there now.

But the car is complete. For now at least. All small things that I am looking at. Maybe change the wheels out but all I am really wanting are a set of dished out Wats or SBC RPF1s.

Looks great! How well did the paint match?

It was hard to tell at first because the sun and silver were bleaching my eyes but when I got it into the garage, I didn't notice any difference other than the mirrors being a bit brighter and glossier. I was very pleased with it though.

Those mirrors would have made for a good wrapping project.

So I had some time to do a couple of things on the NB. First thing was to address the dirty engine bay. Sprayed some Zep degreaser and let it soak.

I even sprayed the underside of the hood because there was a slight layer of dirt there.

Here is after I rinsed it off:

So after I cleaned off the bay, the exhaust manifold heat shield looked terrible compared to the valve cover and cleaner engine bay so I decided to take it off and paint it as well. I decided to hit the bolts up as well as they were pretty cruddy. I didn't take any pictures of the process as I am sure you are tired of those pictures. I sure am.

    Here are the final pics:

So one thing I noticed after I washed the engine bay was that my horns didn't work anymore. That was fine as they were cheap, crappy horns and they needed to be replaced. So I went on Amazon and ordered a set of Hella Sharptones. I was going to go with the Supertones but I liked the way the Sharptones looked.

So I just removed the old horns and mounted these up to the same location and wired them with the existing wires. You can't see them at all behind the bumper which was expected and is fine. Just sucks because I think they look pretty cool. Horn sounds great and is pretty loud.

I have a couple of more things coming from R-Speed so I will get some pictures when they arrive.

I have also been wanting to do a walk around video like the rest of you guys but I haven't found time to get it done and a good location and space for a walk around. It's also a little further down on my priorities list at the moment.

Like how clean the engine bay looks. Have you considered a heat shield/ cold air box for the air intake?

I had previously but kinda forgot about it. I may try one when I get some free time. I have seen some nice DIY ones out there too.

So my care package arrived from R-Speed. Super fast shipping and great prices. Also helps that they are in GA and I am in NC. But I have been putting the clear corners on hold for a long time and I decided to go ahead and order them. I had them on my other NB and I liked the way they looked so I decided to get them again. I also ordered valve cover dress up bolts since I was starting to clean up the engine bay a bit. They were on sale so I decided to throw those in on the order.

    Here they are:

I won't be installing the valve cover bolts until another part arrives but I went to work on the corner lights on my break.

    Before:

    After:

I think it looks a bit cleaner. It's not for everyone but I like it and that really all that matters. I may try and get some shots later when the sun goes down but we will see. All in all, great purchase for me and like that I am supporting a vendor for our community. I try to whenever I can.

Jeez I didn't realize how much nicer that looks. I have always been a fan of Amber but against the silver the clear looks fantastic!

Yeah, I love the amber too. I at least put amber bulbs in there. I have seen cars go with a clear lens and use the off white bulb and I am honestly not a fan.
