    Flyin 92's European Adventure

Well since I'm going to call Europe - more specifically the Azores - home for the next year or so I figured I would start a thread documenting my stay on the islands and any trips I take on the mainland. I also thought it might be a good way to meet some of the European miata folks. I highly doubt anyone on here lives on the islands (although I've seen a couple NBs already).

Here are some pics of the local town right outside of base. It's a very small town, with small cobblestone streets in most parts of the interior. My boss wanted to show me the town and took me with her when she got her nails done.

All pics taken with a Nikon D5000 and 35mm f/1.8

This was just outside the nail salon my boss was at. (The focal point was at the end of the street)

This was a cool sculpture/statue right next to the harbor/marina.

This series was taken along the waterfront before I got to the sculpture.

This was heading up to one of the many churches in the town

This one turned out to be one of my favorite shots of the day. My only gripe are the two flag poles right in the middle of the picture. I don't have photoshop so I couldn't edit them out. I have two different versions. The first one I "warmed up" the photo with basic Mac editing software. I like cause it adds a touch of color to the brick. The second is the original.

So thats my first island photo dump. There will be many more to come over the next 15 months. Please feel free to comment on them and what I can do better as far as exposure, composition, ideas, etc.

You should go to the Swiss/Italian Alps if you get the chance.

Have you been able to sample much local food? I know it's more of a Spanish dish, but I would think you could find some good paella.

I'm not here for very long so I may not get a chance to go over to the mainland. I barely have enough time to see all of the islands. If my follow-on is in Europe then I'll be sure to see everything. Top attraction thus far outside of the normal stuff (i.e. Rome, Paris, London, stonehenge, nurburgring, etc) is the Porsche museum in Stuttgart Germany. Having woke for them I have a great appreciation for the company's history.

They have a lot of spanish, english and traditional portuguese food here and its all very good. The beer/alcohol here is also a lot stronger than what we get in the states. It's a lovely combination

Here are the pics as promised. I took a shit ton of pics and didn't fee like uploading them all lol These are only a few that I liked the most and turned out the best. They aren't in any particular order on our way around the island, but I'll try to keep them grouped together as best I can.

This is in the town where we ate lunch

Angra Garden. All these pics were shot with my 35mm f/1.8 somewhere in the range of 5-6.3 with a shutter speed around 500-600 IIRC.

Nice. So when will you be in germany? maybe we can have a meet at the nόrburgring then. i can bring a couple of freaks, so you can see "the ring" from the best view there is.
we are often up there do some laps, and we have a couple of different "ringready" cars.

I'm going to try and make it to the mainland, but I'm not making any promises. It would be easier if I get stationed on the mainland after this assignment.
