Mazda6 Unveiled At the 2012 Australian International Motor Show

Mazda revealed their new 2013 Mazda6 at the 2012 Australian International Motor Show (AIMS). The new model will see its launch in sedan and wagon body styles alone, which means that the current hatch variant has been dropped off from its line-up. It made its world debut back in August during the 2012 Moscow Motor Show and in September it was brought to the 2012 Paris Motor Show. The new generation of the Mazda6 will get the Kodo design language.

The wagon’s total length is shorter than sedan, it measures 4800mm in comparison with 4865mm for sedan, but the current 6 wagon’s 4765mm overall length is on the contrary 30mm longer than the sedan and hatch. The wagon is slightly shorter in length (by 65mm) and wheelbase. The Mazda6 is incidentally the second model to feature the Japanese maker’s full set of SkyActiv weight-saving and low-friction technologies. It is also 130kg lighter than the previous model. The engine choices include the 2.2 liter SkyActive-D diesel engine, which produces a total output of 175 HP and 420 Nm of torque, along with the 2.5 liter SkyActiv-G petrol, which produces 190 HP and 250 Nm of torque.

The new Mazda6 will be equipped with the ACTIVSENSE safety aids, the stop/start technology and i-ELOOP regenerative braking system. All models will get a six-speed automatic transmission, which is a sole choice for both engines; it represents a significant step from the previous model where the diesel was exclusively manual. The 3.5 inch driver display will exhibit all trip computer functions, whereas a five inch color multimedia interface is used in the centre stack. The sedan previously featured a 60/40 split-folding rear seat, whereas the wagon version sustains the ‘karakuri’ mechanism which incorporates the seat base to permit flat-folding of the backrests. As per Mazda, the new 6 will hit the local showrooms from the beginning of December.
