    An imperfekt project...

I was reading around, to get a feel of how to write my first build thread... I must admit I've decided to start writing one a little late, having done a few mods already in the short time I've spent with Annie (my Miata). I suppose I'll post what I've got so far, and from here-on-out I'll be more in-depth, having the thought of a 'build' in mind, with more pictures and such. So I apologize thus far that there aren't any "install process pics", but there will be...

I'm from NY, but was on vacation driving through Craigsville, WV in August '11 when i saw this on the side of the road

    290802_2377688561576_1231485989_3003569_4171419_o.jpg325955_2377688441573_1231485989_3003568_7920414_o.jpg3.jpg

fell in lust with her at first sight, completely stock in excellent condition, barely 100k miles logged and I had to test drive her. I never drove or rode in a Miata before, but a good buddy of mine (Kyle L) has had a couple of them and had already dug far into his build, so I asked him about all the things I should be looking for during the test drive. Ripped it down the street a couple miles and lust turned into love... checked for limited slip with a nice brakestand and drove the car away the next day! <3

Who the heck goes on vacation and comes back with a car?!

Anyways, my original intentions were to leave her completely stock and have myself a "modern day classic"... however, Kyle coerced me into some necessary mods and it began. After the 500+ mile drive home, I noticed the ride was a bit loose and the rear shocks could stand a replacement... introducing the Racing Beat tubular front and solid rear sway bars to tighten the handling
    4.jpg
and the Raceland coilovers to quiet the ocean boat rocking when I take off.
    5.jpg
...now Racelands might not be the best choice, but the price was right for me and it's a heck of an improvement on the stock feel/rocking...

and halfway through the install it looked like this:
    6.jpg
    dead bodies in the trunk!!!!

lol and when it was done, she sat like this:
    7.jpg

I still wanted the car to appear as stock as possible... but before long I thunk up a colour scheme that really grabbed my attention. Brown.

I figured I'd start with my engine a bit. Taking this:
    8.jpg
    and making this...

As soon as i got the valve cover back from the powdercoating shop, I had received and installed this bad boy right here, GodSpeed aluminum radiator straight from eBay! (having been told I had brown-radiator syndrome)
    308214_2456043000388_1231485989_3095130_1108636414_n.jpg

and a couple days later, I ended up having to put Annie in bed for the winter...

    10.jpg

... over the winter I have set my mind on the wheels that I wanted. I searched long and hard for a set of vintage, deep dish Eagle Alloy 028's, but settled for their identical twin, the Optima Alloy 5-star.
    11.jpg
wrong bolt pattern, but exactly the style I wanted and some custom wheel adaptors are in the works, as well as plans for brown candy coating on the spokes the center caps that came with the wheels are terribly ugly, 7" diameter with a big lug nut lookin piece in the middle, ew, so i'm working on making some nice plain flat ones...

So, I've been working on centercaps for the wheels I got. They came with some really ugly ones that had huge, fake hexnut things on 'em... 01182012112.jpg So I started looking all over for some plain 7" caps... I was convinced that the plain caps off of old GMC Sierra's or Chevy pickup trucks would work, but it turned out they were 7.5", so I took the Ford caps off of my '89 5.0 and set to work. I used JB Weld because its temperature rating is near 600 degrees, so it would withstand future powdercoating.01062012090.jpg01062012091.jpg01062012093.jpg01072012095.jpg01172012107.jpg01172012108.jpg
...and all ready to be coated 01182012111.jpg

it went fairly easy... did the rear ones in my driveway with what few tools I have; box wrenches and ratchets. did the front ones at Kyle L's cause he's got better tools. they may be cheap but I like 'em

    and tyvm!

Love the poop brown/orange valve cover. Looks real nice. Didn't really read through, are you planning a wire tuck? It would look great with a tuck and a painted engine bay.

By brown radiator syndrome are you talking about the plastic end tanks being brown? Or something else I should be paranoid of?

the older ones, i suppose, came stock with aluminum rads... but after um... well, i guess 94 which is mine, i have plastic housing along the top which turned brown (signifying it's old and getting brittle, i guess) so, i didn't think much about getting an aluminum radiator... wasn't a huge investment

I just bought slim fans and a JRSC m45 a couple days ago. Waiting for them to ship

and yes, platypus, I <3 the color of my valve cover - doing the rims the same color... and yes, i'm taking out all of the A/C equipment and doing some simple cleaning/tucking but nothing tooooo crazy. the bay, i'll probably leave black, but try and clean it as much as possible... we'll see, i suppose.

yeah... so i'm waiting on the refund from gomiata, and hoping the guy on miata.net holds onto his mp62 long enough for me to get the refund and buy it off him. he wants 2250 for it with 4k miles on it, i call that a steal so yeah, this refund better hurry

funny thing is, i emailed gomiata about the status of my order and they didn't reply, only when i called them they said they don't have em and can't get em. so i was thinkin like "so they weren't gonna reply to me or say anything and just keep my moneys until i called them? what the heck is that nonsense..." haha
