Jazz had his supercharger rebuilt by Jon Bond performance earlier this year as well. The wait time was a bit long...but the supercharger was rebuilt with several new parts, as there were a few components that were worn out.

First time out of the garage in 8 months!

And...another Miata has joined the family. Bought my second BRG, but this one was bone stock when I got it. This one is #3179. It had been mainly sitting for the past couple of years because the previous owner had accidentally injured themselves, but held onto the car for a few years before deciding to part with it. Saw it on CL, went to look at the car, and I brought it home.

Then...it would be a length period of time before I could devote some TLC for this BRG (work/life took up majority of my time). But I recently took some time off, and dedicated myself to work on the BRG.

First updates was a set of Watanabe B-Types and Tein Flex coilovers.

Then, a MUCH needed detail. Not a professional detail by any means...but some time with a DA and polish went a long way into "restoring" the original British Racing Green paint.

(Posted the comparo between the Eunos emblem or Lotus style front emblem on IG. surprisingly the results were 50% for the Eunos emblem and 50% for the Lotus style emblem. Hmm...)

Most recent additions for the BRG are Runabout M2 mirrors, KGW rear view mirror, Zoom fuel lid, front R-pkg lip, tan S-special door cards, and RSpeed vent rings. Next step is to look for a Wood Nardi steering wheel (thinking Satin spokes or polished spokes) and a Daikei steering wheel hub.

Welcome back! Really like the Model 3, seems like the perfect daily to my eyes. Loving your work on the BRG too, the polish made a huge difference on the overall appearance of it!

Congratulations on getting Jazz back up and running, Brian! Did you just get a rebuild or ported as well?

Congratulations on the BRG acquisition! Off to a great start, especially with another set of Wat's.

I'm loving my Model 3. An electric car is a great daily in the SF Bay Area traffic. The Autopilot is great to for the long commute.

Thank you sir. Just a standard rebuild, as I wanted to keep everything CARB legal. Thanks for the BRG compliment, too. Now that both cars have wats, I'm considering getting another set of wheels to change things up.

The Miata Reunion is coming up fast, and I procrastinated prepping for Laguna Seca (not fair to Jazz). I had to smog Jazz (thanks California), and was nervous whether Jazz would be able to pass with the JR supercharger (some local smog stations refuse to test modified cars). A friend of mine recommended downloading and printing out the relevant paperwork for both the JR supercharger and the JR header from the CARB website. Turned out to be great advice, as the smog tech asked for the paperwork before beginning the smog test. Shared the paperwork with him, then the smog test proceeded. A good 45 minutes later, Jazz had passed! (Several techs THOROUGHLY inspected my car to check for CARB legal compliance, was anxious throughout the process!)

To celebrate (Jazz knew he'd pass), I treated both Jazz and the BRG to a much deserved wash and clean. Love having clean cars.

With the smog test covered, next was prepping the new-to-Jazz OEM hardtop.

So...OEM hardtop? What happened to the Kanspo hardtop?? What happened to having JDM street cred?

The Kanspo hardtop looked cool and is unique, but lacked the refinement and rigidity of an OEM hardtop. It looked cool on Jazz...but it never fit well enough for me as I had to add more foam to seal off a big air gap between the Kanspo and the body of the car. Too many compromises for me personally. I decided to put the Kanspo up for sale.

Spirit Road contacted me asking whether the Kanspo was available. We chat and then agreed on a deal. What was crazy was that Kevin decided to drive up the same afternoon, opting to drive the Spirit Road roadster up from SoCal to NorCal. (800 mile round trip)

The Spirit Road roadster made it up safely and we installed the Kanspo hardtop. Thanks Kevin for making the (crazy) drive to pick up the Kanspo hardtop. It looks great on the Spirit Road roadster.

The past year and a bit have been interesting the Roadster life. Look at the picture below, about a year between the two images. Jazz is and will always be here. The MSM was passed on, and the (second) BRG was brought in.

My promise to Jazz is to enjoy driving Jazz. As of now, there are no plans for major updates or new parts. I drove Jazz maybe 150 miles this past year? Most of the past year Jazz sat sidelined due to my neglect, and Jazz doesn't deserve that. I'm excited to bring Jazz back to Laguna Seca for the Miata Reunion, and I will enjoy Jazz more. (to do that, I may have to sell the BRG)

I've had the same revelation recently. Cars like these need to be driven to be thoroughly enjoyed!
