Mazda hints at more sports cars.
Mazda has left the door open to revive its iconic RX-7 sports car.
The brand is currently focused on the development of its next generation MX-5 Roadster - which will also form the basis of the new Alfa Romeo Spider - and the brand's global spokesman Greg Young has hinted it could lead to more sporty models in the future.
Speaking at the launch of the all-new Mazda3, Young said the company is looking to maximise what it can get out of every new model and the technology that underpins them.
I dont have the details, so Im not going to speculate, but as the next MX-5 Roadster is developed in a project with Alfa Romeo well probably see how you develop some of these technologies and platforms from front-wheel drive to rear-wheel drive, Young said. And getting more into sports-performance. I suppose more information will come to light as we get into MX-5.

He said the development of Skyactiv engine, transmissions, chassis and body technology that forms the basis of new Mazda3, Mazda6 and CX-5 is an indicator of how the company will develop future models.
That suggests trying to add more sporty models that could utilise the MX-5 rear-wheel drive underpinnings. But he stopped short of confirming if the company would bring back the RX-7 or RX-8.
Im not going to say if there is an RX-7 in the plan or not, but if you think of the same approach to making core vehicles, why would you take a different approach for other vehicles, he said.
