It's cold, my hands are frozen, and the shop I chose to clean the IM isn't open on Saturday.

I cleaned the throttle body, throttle body boot, ISCV, started on the block and head degreasing, and various small parts.

Feeling frisky, I braved the chilly weather, fading light. and replaced 4 of the 5 coolant hoses under the IM. The largest is a 'T' shaped hose that snakes around a bit, so having a warmer day and more light will be beneficial.

I am very glad I did this so far. Some of these hoses appear to be original, or very old. I don't think a couple would have lasted the year. The parts I ordered will be here Monday, so I have time to get the motor prepped and stuff cleaned.

Sat down to warm up and finish cleaning the throttle body assembly. At some point, someone has already done this as the known leak points have been sealed. This is good. All I did was to clean it very well and make all the mating surfaces smooth.

    Before:

I turned my attention to the TPS sensor. On the e30, it is mounted on the bottom of the TB. This can allow oil and grunge to seep into it and foul the electronics. Spec E30 racers drill a small hole in the TPS plastic case to allow any oil to drain out. I was also advised to change the O ring between the TB an TPS. Sure enough, mine was hard and brittle when I found it and pick it out of its seat. So, after drilling the hole, I shot some healthy shots of AFM cleaner in there and sat it aside to drain.

Tomorrow, I will go try to find a replacement O ring, some more cleaner for the engine, and install the last of the hoses. I will scrape and scotchbrite the mating surfaces for the IM, and change some tubing for the charcoal canister, and other odds and ends. It's a casual pace, which is nice. If I absolutely need the car on Monday, I would be scrambling, but I don't so...

Final item for tonight. I cleaned and prepped the oil down tube. It equalizes the pressure between the crankcase and the head. It connects to the bottom of the IM and the block. It is about an inch in diameter and 8-9 inches long an O ring on either end seals it and it is held in tension by a spring. It is also known as "the bitch tube" because it is a bitch to reinstall with the IM, mostly because of the spring. The trick is to compress the spring with thin wire or a thin zip tie, then cut it free after it is installed. Here's hoping this works when the time comes!

So did you find the hose that you ordered? Or was it one you already replaced?

Drove out in the shite conditions to pick up my manifold from being cleaned. You know, for $27, I am happy with the results. It is a more thorough job than I could have done with that much money spent on cleaners, brushes, and other materials.

My parts are late to arrive, which is pretty shitty. They were supposed to be here yesterday, no show yet today.

So, the parts I had shipped overnight arrived 2 days late.

They arrived today around 3 pm, just in time to watch the leading edge for Snowpocalypse '15 loom over town. I hung the IM when a client called and wanted to chat. Ever see a dog kept from it's favorite toy? That's how I was during that call. I rushed outside after the call, and the temps were dropping pretty fast. I buttoned up the IM, re-assembled the TB, and routed everything for clearance. I poured in coolant, and bled the system....VICTORY!!! Haven't had time to drive it yet, but I took about 30-45 minutes to burp the system, I will watch it closely over the next few days.

Throttle response is much sharper, the car starts much quicker.

Sometimes an opportunity presents itself where you wind up developing longer-term goals than planned.

I am considering hanging onto Eisbar. I was going to sell her to buy a DD tow vehicle, but I may table that until I am certain it is required.

I have been thinking a lot about the interior of the car lately. There was a rare, no longer available fabric used on specific packages. Not many made it stateside. I put some feelers out to some contacts in the business I am associated with to see if I could get the ball rolling on have it replicated. This fabric can no longer be found by the yard, so if your interior has it and you need it repaired, you are SOL.

I found a source that was actually interested in replicating the fabric. Not only that, I have an e30 owner locally that has original samples he is willing to offer for this to happen. This could be a very cool, very unique mod that would benefit a lot of people. It is still early in the game, but it looks promising!

I get asked about E30 fabric all the time at work. I am getting ready to list some unobtainium on Bimmerforums. It is a full set of seat leathers for an 89 E30 M3. The car has 29000 miles on it. Should be interesting.

Sean, do you know of an e30m3 rear seat for sale? The covering can be shot, just need the foam to be intact, maybe the covering decent enough to have patterns made.

The fabric I am lining up to reproduce is the M Technic anthracite cloth.

I wish I did but there are none for sale that I am aware of. We are currently redoing the interior of the companies owners M3. You may want to put a post up on bimmerforums, I know theres a lot of M3 hoarders on there.

Thanks! I found a complete set, F&R in Atlanta, but the guy is asking too much for the condition.

So were you not driving at the event yesterday? I saw your car there and then realized that I actually talked to you but was so tired that I didn't even realize it. You were the one signing people in and asked if I was theothersawyer! lol Wouldn't have minded talking to you, but oh well! I'm sure there will be other opportunities!
