That's a sad title. Anyway many many many years ago (6or7, maybe longer)there was a LS6 swapped NB that used to occasionally show up at our local miata meets(Tampabaymiatas). The gentleman had designed a conversion that allowed him to run an LS motor with a T56 trans and a getrag diff in a miata shell. All while maintaining the handling of a miata.
After several "long" discussions about what he had created I asked if he had any plans to produce and sell it as a kit. He said "it was in the works" and I said I have cash now, let me know when you are ready to sell one.
Not too much later I bough the first kit from v8roadsters.
Since then I changed the car I was building, bought somewhere in the neighborhood of 30 miatas, 12 GTO's, built a house, moved, etc, etc, etc. Life has gotten in the way of building my car.
While talking to Shandelle from V8R today he was nice enough to inform me that I have set the bench mark for the longest build, to which I responded with a one finger salute. Any way it runs!!
And should be on the road very soon.....hopefully
So I did not document the whole process as the Polaroids have faded from the early days and most pics I can find a pretty recent.
The car is a 99' that I picked up for $1600 and stripped it. I was able to recoupe almost all of my money selling the drivetrain.
All of the dropouts from the GTO's I ended up selling. I was able to find a L33 for the fair price of $450. I traded a 4l60 that I couldn't sell for a T56 and I snagged a 3.42 Getrag diff, LS6 intake(rails, injectors, TB) from GMPerformance. Everything else of the car is pretty much a V8roadsters catalog.
Full cage from miatacage.com
Sanderson headers
V8R radiator
V8R oil pan
V8R flywheel/clutch
V8R clutch master cylinder
V8R big brake kit
V8R aluminum driveshaft and axle kit
V8R control arms
V8R coilovers
(Sorry, they're local to me)
And a bunch of other odds and ends.
Shandelle installed the cage.
I fabbed the exhaust from the headers back out of 2.5" stainless into a single 3" out the back.(I forget the brand of muffler).
I'm using a Holley HPEfi ECM which is as simple as you can get. Harness is labeled, connect about 5 wires for power, ignition, ground, fuel pump, and turn the key.
I will be ordering a adapter harness and a racepac dash soon as it will make for a very clean gauge cluster and allow data aquisition at the track.
15X10 6ULs are on their way. I already have a APR carbon wing, a lightweight hardtop from CCP Fabrication, and will soon be ordering a wide body kit from CCP Fabrication as well.image.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpg
I'll take some more pics tomorrow
