I appreciate the sentiment, Martin. I may be getting one from Alex, aka Scratch 'n Sniff. My friend has gone over to Alex's and I told him to check for a good one for me.

So, today was a good day. Saw some cool cars at the Morrisville C&C, saw some familiar faces from the forums, saw Guardians of the Galaxy 2, overall a good time.

But (always one, right?), on the way there this morning I heard what sounded like a rock smacking the hell out of my windshield. I looked and didn't see anything, so I thought I got lucky. Nope.

Saw that on my way back east after leaving the Southpoint mall after lunch. A crack in the windshield around 4" long. FML. So either it happened when what hit the glass made contact, or cracked laterafter the C&C.

Already stopped by the local Mazda dealer to get a printed quote for a new OEM windshield, $600+. Plan to call State Farm Monday.

On the brighter side of things, I had a V8 body guard detail today thanks to some friends.

New windshield was installed this morning.

Last night I preped the lower windshield area by removing the wipers, wiper cowl panel, and GS panel. I didn't want to take any chances with the wiper cowl panel since it's still in exceptional condition, and I know they have a tendacy to crack/break relatively easily.

    Pics from this morning.

Here's the crack, it had grown about 2" since it happened last week. I actual heard it every time it grew, even saw it happen a time or two. Glad I took care of it ASAP, makes me feel as if it would've been at least half way across the windshield within a couple of months otherwise.

Original, cracked, and pitted windshield out.

New OEM windshield and reveal molding installed, as well as the wiper cowl panel and wipers.

    Mmmm, JIS Nippon goodness, yum.

Got around to swapping in a new to me MAF. Friend of mine went through SnS's stock of parts to get me the best condition one he could. It looks like new.

So that meant fabbing another bracket.

Will get around to painting it this weekend.

While out grabbing some light bulbs for the garage and hobby room today, I grabbed lunch from the fil-a of Chick.

Not much has been going with my car, but I did get to take her on an unexpected trip to Deals Gap.

My friend Zach has been looking for a replacement VR MSM since the one I helped him pick up from TX dropped a valve, over a year ago. From no fault of his, btw. Anyways, the right car popped up finally. Again, out of State and a 1,000+ miles from home, this time in Kansas City, Kansas.

No novel of a story this time, as it was a far smoother and enjoyable trip. The quick run down is we took Betty to see/pickup the car and on the way back home spent Memorial Day weekend at Deals Gap enjoying the Dragon.

So instead, here's quite a few pictures from the trip.

Stopped at a Steak N Shake for dinner on the way to the car.

Stormy skies. It rained for most of the drive to Kansas.

After testing the car and buying it, we went to Olive Garden for dinner.

Zach thought to snap a pic while at the PO's house, but I haven't gotten around to getting that one from him.

Some quick details on the car. '05 GT package VR MSM w/ 25k miles (currently 27k), single owner, garage kept, FMII, Hydra, full FM exhaust, slotted rotors w/ Porterfield pads, and all the stock parts came with it too.

After getting down the road a bit we stopped ata motel to rest. The next morning.

Spotted this in the parking lot. Looks to be on bags (I hope, I mean, dats low).

From there we were on our way to Fast Lane Classic Cars as a site seeing stop since it was on the way, here's some scenery that was on the way.

Lots of flat land, but beautiful skies.

Here we are parked at Fast Lane.

Here's a preview over shot of what they had in stock at the time.

And some Shelby related cars. I hear they're nice or fast or something.

For more, check out this imgur album. Also in that album are pics of zome collectibles that have in display cases in their open warehouse and pics from the diecast they have for sale in their gift shop.

From there we got back on the road. Had to make a pit stop at a rest area.

Spotted this on the road, PAYURBIL.

But we did eventually make it to Robbinsville, NC. Where we stayed at the Phillips Motel.

Good times were had on the Dragon.

Stopped at The Hub for lunch one day.

Saw this as we pulled in the Shell station in Robbinsville for gas before leaving.

So, it was also 2 stroke bike weekend too, which was pretty awesome as that made for fantastic sounds coming from miles away all weekend long.

And here's some crappy pics we shot while just sitting and hanging out at Gravity Cavity. My first time getting my hands on a DSLR. I had no idea what I was doing. But we both loved finding the sport mode with rapid shot on.

And here's some stuff spotted while at the Overlook.

Had to make another pit stop at another rest area on the way home.

Once back home, we stopped at friend's place to hang out and show'em the "new" car.

And to end our trip, we met up with some other friends for dinner at IHOP.

Since being back home, Zach has been tinkering with his new unicorn. It's pretty safe to say this is the one, finally, it only took 3 tries (which the 1st one wasn't an actual buy to keep, but hey, the joke is better as 3 instead of 2).

Over the past two days/nights he's been over at my shop taking care of a few things. Quick run down list is as follows.

-Swap the RacingFarts out for the 6ULs on his other VR MSM, LM
-Swap the clutch hydraulics from LM into the new hotness (as it had been swapped to a normal NB clutch master and 949 braided line)
    -New trans and diff fluids
-Install the Miata Roadster short throw shifter
    -Hardwire in his radar detector
-Install a WOLO Bad Boy horn
-Fix the shop's mess of the instercooler & power steering cooler line that installed it for the PO.
-Remove the unsightly letters from the intercooler
-Fab some lower brackets for the intercooler
-Little of this and a little of that

    Fluids:

    Clutch hydraulics:

We actually managed to remove that entire setup from one car and install it into the other without spilling a single drop. Can't say the same about the original hydraulics that came out of the new car. We were gentle with the original master & slave cylinders, as well as the firewall hardline. But, that pigtail curly-Q line? Aw hell naw, we mangled that POS, it wasn't worth out time to be nice to. Just easier to buy another braided line for LM.

Zach is doing... something or another here, maybe fiddling with the upper intercooler bracket? I dunno.

So, the shop that installed everything installed the intercooler bracket backwards, so the intercooler was shifted towards the driver's side. After realizing that caused it to interfere with the power steering cooler line, what did they do? Change the mounting of the line. Which, that was dumb. We were just flabbergasted that a shop was paid to do such work. Which hey, if ya need some Miata work done, I might know a couple guys that know what they're doing, wink, wink.

But ah, yeah, after we were done is sat like FM intended, offset towards the passenger side. The only real downside to the way it was before was the lone hanging down totalled exposed in the grill, a bit of chaffing on the line and intercooler, and, oh yeah, having to cut both lower wheelwell splash guards so they'd fit after swapping things around to the way they're suppose to be.

And now that I think about it, kinda wish I grabbed some pics of my handy work fabbing those lower intercooler brackets. Just simple Z brackets really, but made a world of a difference in keeping the intercooler from wobbling around.

Think I might eventually pick up one of those WOLO horns, that bitch is loud.

All in all, the car isn't perfect, but it's far better than FM's old test bed car that we affectionately call LM. And by the time Zach is done, it's not only going to be a mighty fine MSM, but a very well sorted Miata, with all of the factory Mazda flaws addressed.

While I missed out on Phat's old Nakamae Type R seats in tan leather that Geoff was selling (BTW, if the buyer of those is reading this, PM me if you change your mind about them... or if a few extra bucks would pry them from your hands) I did at least get this/these.

Nakamae Quilted Transmission Tunnel trim in NA tan.

Ignore the color difference to the Bikini top, it's NB tan (bought used, and eh, my soft top is NB tan too).

Now, I have been drooling over the Nakamae quilted stuff ever since I first saw it all on the web 6 years ago. But the price and rarity is just... well, out there. So they've kind of been like unicorn tears to me. I've read over and over how the quality is top notch, superb, etc. Well, having finally gotten my grubby dick beaters on them I can say that not once has someone oversold the quality on these. All those little squares/diamonds are like soft bubble wrap that doesn't pop, so I found myself just sitting there squeezing them for a bit (so soft).

I did a quick test fit by roughly laying the driver's side in place. Fitment is spot on. I can't wait to install these... but I will.

I'm waiting until I can get a pair of the side step pieces before installing the trans tunnel pieces. So yeah, if ya got a pair you're willing to let go, or know someone that does, hook ya boy up. Please? Purdy please?

Anything I made would never match the Nakamae stuff. I have thought about atempting to make my own quilted panels for a long time, but kept putting it off hoping I could get the Nakamae pieces.

And now that I have my hands on the good stuff, anything less would be... well, less.

    The Slow Pursuit of Vintage.

The color and patterns would be easy to replicate because you have some of the pieces. Make your own, sell the originals for profit.

    I'm a goofy bastard.

Out of curiosity, I tried the broomstick test. In my normal, everyday driving position, no go. But if I slide the seat up a notch and lean it back a notch, it just does clear.

Granted, not sure how well that would go over with a strict tech inspection. But I've already gotten an assurance that I'll be fine at the event I'm going to/doing this weekend.

Really looking forward to going to and trying autox for the first time.
