    Scalloped Brake Rotors, sure why not.

    some more updates from the shop.............


    Here you can see the lower control arms built for production race cars. The brakes are V8Roadsters hats with 11.75" scalloped rotors to reduce rotating mass and unsprung weight, the combined weight is right under 7 lbs.

    Huh, I've seen similar rotors on bikes but never on a car. Pretty cool!

    Wow, I have not seen something like that before. Is it more effecient with heat dissipation as well as the advantage of lower rotational mass?

    I have seen these on Audi's before. They claimed reduced rotating and unsprung weight, no mention of heat dissipation advantages.

    The contact patch looks variable, but sufficient. It has to be able to have good brake feel without any noticeable loss in pad to rotor area. Yet my simpleton brain tells me there is less contact for every rotation (less than 1/4 of the pads contact rotational area per 360 degrees) what am I missing. It would seem that the scalloped rotor would lessen the original rotors time and surface contact during braking. This is obviously far beyond my contemplation right now.

    I've run scalloped brakes on my literbikes before and not noticed any loss in braking power or fade resistance, but the total mass they have to stop is also 1/4 that of a car.

    Thanks for posting this. Everything I see on that red car looks awesome.

    Maybe a longer pad offsets reduced width.
