    FYI, Dunlop ZII Discontinued

Just caught wind a week ago the Dunlop ZII tire is being discontinued. For the autocrossers out there looking for a blowout price on really good tires, nows your chance to snag them up. I currently use this tire for DD and autocross and these are my favorite tires, period. I just had another set of 4 delivered yesterday so when my old ones go, I can go ahead and have the new ones swapped.

I wonder why. It's not like they don't sell.

From what I understand, they are coming out with another tire. But it won't be released until late 2014

I'm relieved to hear that. I think my current ZII's only have 10 track hours or so left in them. My timing might work out perfectly if they release in October/Fall.

This is slightly good news. Really makes my decision between ZII and R888s slightly easier.
And yes, they're not so much comparable tires.

Bad news for me... I autocross, and bought a set last year. This year I'm bumping from street class (stock) to STS, and will be running 205/50/15 Rivals (purchased last night from a friend on 15x7 TRM C1s.) I was hoping to recoup some of the difference by selling the ZII's so I could get a new top this year...
2012: Purchased Miata, Laid off 3 days later. 4th place overall (default!), NWOR SCCA (RTR)
2013: Budget RTR build, massive increase in participation, 3rd place overall, NWOR SCCA (RTR)
2014: Suspension and more active competition in STS. 3rd place overall, NWOR SCCA
2015: Time for some "form" and vintage styling (while still racing NWOR, of course).

Yea Tire Rack is legit. I didn't get mine that quickly but pretty fast delivery.

Also more news.. From what I hear, the new tire is going to be called ZII Star Spec and will have around 3% more grip than the ZII

So the new ZII star specs are currently on sale on tire rack. I'm curious to see if anyone has purchased these and have good impressions on this tire versus the previous tire. I didn't see any data on TR, but did notice the tread pattern is the exact same.

NT01's would be a better dedicated track tire

i hear tires with lower than 200 treadwear won't be allowed in some classes. So tires like the NT01 might not be allowed. Closer match ups would be the new R-S3 from Hankook which I admit I'm interested in. I'm thinking after my original set of ZII are worn bare i'll upgrade to a x9 wheel and get 225 R-S3 for autocross but i'm so surprised Dunlop doesn't make the 225/45/15 ZII. I feel like that's a wide range of vehicles being missed.
