DD evo orange NB - help needed

I finshed the engine swap today and have a weird sound coming from the intake side of the engine... seems to me like it's sucking air somewhere, but I'm not sure and would like you to chime in with other options.

it sounds a bit like a tractor now

Wow that sounds crazy..! You sure that was a good motor that you swapped in?

Btw, how do you like the performance gains from this ITB setup? Any dyno numbers?

it came from a good running car so I didn't question the engine's condition... it's got a leak here and there, but that's all

I like the response the ITBs provide, but it doesn't improve performance that much. But I like it more than the supercharger

Interesting. When I did a '99 head conversion on my original short block I ran into a few problems due to added compression and way more air and fuel flow. I had to quickly get a new (lower mileage) motor. After that all the issues were gone. I'm not familiar with your type of upgrade but just seeing how it ran with your previous motor, that would be my suspicion. Or an air leak somewhere..

I'm rebuilding an old FM Ubercharger for my rig. You think ITBs are a more effective route based on your experience with a supercharger?

it does sound like one, so I'll try spraing it with carb cleaner as someone somewhere suggested...

well the supercharger is nice, but ITBs are more of what I'm looking for. I guess you have to try it yourself and see what suits you the best

Yeah that should do the trick for you. Try to keep the spray focused where you want it or spray it sporadically so the overspray doesn't go everywhere, especially with the ITBs sucking in air like they do. It'll just make your engine rev like crazy. Try a smoke test if the spray doesn't work. Good luck!

spraying the engine didn't reveal any vacuum leak. Had a friend have a quick look at it at a track I've been to during the weekend and it seems it's got a blown headgasket... I can't seem to get a break with this car. I'm really loosing motivation to do any further work on it.

decided to go for a drive even though the engine's not fine since I paid the entrance fee and couldn't find anyone to go instead of me. It's fine on dry surface, but understeers like crazy on wet... had to pull the ebrake many times to save me from understeering into the grass

I know the feeling, but keep doing the right things and it'll give you lots of fun in the end (at least that's what I hope it will, haha!), get the headgasket changed.

    thanks for the kind words

I'll probably send the other engine I have to a nearby shop for a complete GO... I was thinking about stroking it to 1.7 but that would be too much money and I'd be better off with 1.8 swap

    decision's been made, I'll go with 1.8

I'm just debating wheter go with non VVT or VVT and disable it since I don't have a way to control it and don't want to spend more money on the VVT controller

This car can now be considered gone... friend's gonna have it as a daily driver.

Engine is still 1.6 but running strong now, no leaks.

    And this is the replacement
