Sounds so damn amazing.

Time is flying by as it's less than 6 months until WTAC 2015!
The good news is that everything is progressing along nicely.
As previously mentioned, the aero package as designed by AMB Aero wasn't able to be fully executed in time for WTAC 2104. However, the past 4 months has seen the moulds for the outstanding items - front splitter, front nose cone, hard top, rear diffuser, rear wing end plates and rear duck-tail are all but completed. With everything going to plan, the composite components from these moulds will be manufactured over the next 2-3 months. This will allow the suspension set-up to be completed and track tuned.
A couple of smaller items have been ticked off the list over the last couple of months....
....with a much needed heel rest added....
....and the cable and lever for the adjustable front ARB installed.
I was able to get some more seat time at a QR morning session a week back so that my tuner could make some tune adjustments from the Motec data. This really tidied up the rest of the ECU mapping (other than WOT) and also pushed the peak power over 340rwkW (456rwhp) @ 9,800 rpm when we put it back on the hub dyno. This increase is also due to the engine seals bedding in.
In the 3rd and final session of the morning I didn't have to focus on anything other than just driving. This session saw the car crack into the 58's on the Clubman Circuit for the first time. What's really exciting about this is that the driver didn't have to do anything special! The Motec data confirmed this as the corner speeds were no faster than my little blue NA8, and as you can see in the below video I was braking way early. So I'm quietly confident that the lap times will drop further without too much red mist action!
...and then this happened!
Cheers,
Danny
Dang. This thing is so fucking wild, Danny! and now with sequential shifting???

this car must be a blast to drive on the track!
It is!
Some good news....the production of the outstanding composite components is underway. The aim is to have it all completed and installed by mid-July. This will give us 3 months to test and set the suspension. It's less than 150 days until WTAC 2015!
A bit of due diligence on the used HKS sequential averted a disaster after crack testing highlighted the imminent failure of a dog ring. So this has delayed the installation for a few weeks.
However, it hasn't prevented the necessary modifications required to allow its fitment. As the box is essentially a modified FD3S RX-7 gearbox we were able to use another box to undertake the necessary modifications.
A little weight reduction was a nice bonus.
A new PPF was constructed from pieces of RX-8 and RX-7 items. The tailshaft is unmodified. The other bonus is that the gearboxes are interchangeable....just need to use the appropriate PPF and clutch slave cylinder.
Seeing as the rear muffled section of exhaust has been essentially torched and the mufflers appearing to be ineffective I thought that we might as well save some weight.
When we fired up her up the extra dB proved otherwise! So the 'torched' rear muffled section of exhaust went straight back on.
I'm looking forward to getting some more seat time over the next week.
Cheers,
Danny
I can only imagine the dB's from the huge exhaust ports unmuffled, I'm surprised you thought that would work Are Rotaflo still making mufflers? I would think they might have something suitable, and they're Australian.
It wasn't a matter of whether it would work or not, it was an exercise to show how effective the two mufflers were after being completely torched. It was surprising that they still made quite a substantial difference vs straight tube. There is not one bit of sound attenuating material left in them!
Yes they are. Once the aero is finished, Rotaflo are making custom mufflers for the car.
Cheers,
Danny
Rise from your grave mighty rotary miata
...and after 6 and a half years we're almost back! Should be track ready in 5-6 months.
There's been heaps of changes since it was first assembled in 2014. Here's a short list of some of the changes.
* Motec M150 with Drive By Wire (DBW) upgrade from M800 and cable throttle
* Holinger SG3 6-speed sequential with paddle shift - upgrade from Series 2 RX-8 6-speed H-Pattern
* 100% AMB Aero design completed...up from 50% completed
* External pressure pump for dry sump system - upgrade from just external scavenge pump stages with OEM pressure pump
* Wilwood Floor Mounted Pedal box - upgrade from OEM Mazda
* Relocation of dry sump tank to reduce overweight and plumbing lengths
* Diet....hopefully 150kg lighter overall including driver!
* Carbon hardtop replaces OEM (heavy) hardtop.
Cheers,
Danny
Oh man, these underside pics made my day. Looks fantastic!
