My brothers 95 M merlot was the reasons I got into miata. One time he went to a business trip to Florida for about 2 weeks and I would take the car out when I barely had a learners permit. First car I drove on a mountain road and I absolutely enjoyed every second of it. That's when I decided I wanted to get one. Although I did go through several cars ( two s13 with sr20, two AE86; one with 20v , and a mk1 mr2) before I finally got my first miata.

I had a Mazda protege that was already modified when I bought it and I really enjoyed the community it came with not knowing I was setting myself for failure to start building cars and spending so much money. Anyways I crashed it and got a check from progressive and used it to buy a 99 black nb which was a piece of junk when I got it. I bought it for I think 3600 or 3800 in 2010 with 94k miles. Dents scratches wrong injectors installed and codes to count on two hands. Always though instructed not to get it by a good friend of mine I ignored his advice and took on the challenge which I have overcome with hard work, lots of cash, and stressful times. I was recommended to get a miata since my group of friends started a protege to mx5 lineage. I wanted to stay with the community because Mazda has the best support and friendliest groups out there.

I worked as a service writer at a local Mazda dealership for about 4 years. I never liked the car nor did I ever imagine owning a convertible. We ended up doing a motor job on a emerald mica NB with some nice wheels and a hardtop and I just fell in love with the look of it. I then started finding excuses to road test every miata that came in for service. Really liked the idea of a reliable, fun car that's easy to work on. Years later I Found an unbelievable deal on a bonestock red 94 with a hardtop. Drove the jesus out of it for 2 years until an elderly couple pulled out in front of me and I crashed due to my lack of autocross skills. The entire time of owning it, the hardtop never came off unless I was working on it and needed more room. My current miata I've had for just over a year and the tops been down every chance I get. I love top down motoring. Still have the hardtop sitting in the garage waiting to color match it to Mariner Blue but I have a feeling it'll rarely be put on. My friends think I'm crazy but I want to own every generation miata.

I got into miatas because :
    1.Lightweight
    2. RWD
    3.Roadster
    4. cheap maintenance
    5.Plenty aftermarket support
    6.Good resale value
    7.Affordability

It's a perfect car for many different types of people.Lets be real, the miata is not Porsche caliber. However, it's a versatile car. It can do a lot of things without costing you an arm and a leg. I had many different nice cars before, but I always kept a miata on the side.

I though for months about what the perfect first car might be. I needed something sub $3500, reliable, easy to work on and I liked the idea of one day getting into some form of racing.

When I started tagging along with my brother to Auto-X and track days it became obvious that a miata was the perfect car for me.

    I agree with BrendanJ, I had Datsuns ( 2- Z's, 240 and 280 ). But, after 10 yrs, wanted a roadster.
Initially was going for a Z3 BMW, but research of maintenance costs.....not a good choice. Miata's reputation
for dependability was it. Very pleased with the 99 NB. Performs and handles better than the 280Z .

Tsuchiya Said he thinks the miatas are the funnest cars to drive...

Tsuchiya-san (aka Drift King) Aka the shiz (aka KT)

He has a list of cars that are his fun favs:
    '86 Corolla
    '91 NSX
    '96 Silvia
    '00 RX7
    '02 S2000
    '98 Integra
    '94 Mr2
    '91 200sx
    '95 Evo III
    & OF COURSE THE '98 MIATA ! ! !

He also went on to say how much he enjoys the Miata because of the entry speed and feel for the wheel...

FINALLY AT AGE 18 I WAS ABLE TO GET THE FEEL FOR THE WHEEL OF A MIATA WHILE WORKING VALET @ PACHANGA INDIAN CASINO...
IT WAS A COLD A RAINY NIGHT WITH NOTHING TO DO. NO CARS IN THE PARKING LOT AT ALL. MY ASST MNGR PULLED A CAR UP TO THE KEY BOOTH AND HEARD HOW EXCITED I WAS OVER IT, SO HE LET ME PARK IT IN THE GARAGE...I'M LUCKY I DIDN'T WRAP THAT MIATA AROUND A POLE THE WAY I DROVE IT...NOW I HAVE MY OWN '99 MIATA 1.8 EMERALD GREEN...

All I need for it now is a Hardtop, Tein Coilovers, Tein Shocks, Tower Strut Braces, Lower Tie Bars, F1 Mirrors, 2.0 LSD, Exhaust, 16x9's+0, 205/45/16's, Roll Bar, Koyo Radiator, Individual Throttle Bodies, New Cams, Port and Polish, Race Management ECU, 6-Speed Trans, Dual Plate Clutch, Carbon Seat, FlyWheel, Headers, 4Pnt Harness, Helmet, huuuuh Breath, and a tow hook...estimate $8000-$9000 +48-72 hrs hard labor...

I was looking for a beater while I finished some details on my boosted Cavalier wagon. Found a nice '92 with low miles...and bought three more. Vej now owns the wagon.

I'm going to be honest... I was actually looking at getting an S14 but I just could not afford to put fuel in it at the time as I commuted some 50 miles a day and what cars i could afford were dogs. I then started looking at the Mk1 just out of curiosity and I got some really good insurance quotes and the cost of the cars were generally quite low so I bought a standard green 1.8 and never looked back.
