    Question Parking brake handle: simple cylindrical shaft? Source for shift knob 'bases'?

    I'm going to turn my own parking brake handle and shift knob but have two questions:

    1) Is the p-brake handle simply drilled through, or does the profile of the hole change along the length (round one end, square on the other)?
    2) Does anyone know of a source for a good-quality machined-metal threaded 'base' onto which I can then fit a wooden knob?

    You should be able to do a straight round center for the parking brake. The aluminum Voodoo handle I've got is done that way, and uses a setscrew to keep it tightly in place.

    I just tried removing the existing wooden handle by the "as-seen-on-forums" technique of twist and pull. I think I need to eat more spinach.

    Use some of that non-slip shelf liner or something similar. I was having a hell of time trying to remove my old wooden handle by hand and it wouldn't budge, but using that shelf liner I was able to twist and pull that sucker off in a matter of seconds.

    I just used hardware store nuts and a couple hunks of scrap wood.











    The pattern is a 2002 Camaro SS knob






    Finish is gun stock oil

    Nice, indeed--clever work-around. I was hoping to find a nice machined, black-anodized base for design/looks.
