93 LE tweeter replacement

Hey guys,

I am trying to fit a set of tweeters in the stock location but they are about 3/4" too deep. I have searched EXTENSIVELY for a spacer bring the tweeter out of the door pocket by just this much but have found no company that makes it. In the even that I can't use these particular tweeters, does a company make some that are a direct fit? Would rather not leave the gaping hole in the door panel. Thanks for any leads!

edit: I don't have a router to make custom rings. Also, I know it isn't the ideal place for tweeters but want to utilize the stock holes.

Well I am working on this. You need at least a 1.25" tweeter to prolly make this project a bit easier. The OEM tweeter is that size and so you can use the frame that holds it once you can pop the tweeter out. Here is a pic of the cover and frame separated after you remove the 3 little screws.



It can be done with some cutting and good glue. It is that plastic frame that holds the tweeter and cover to the door card bolster.

Thanks for the info on the size! I thought I was going to be able to fit my new tweeter in the recessed hole in the door frame, guess not. This is the speaker set I got (Kenwood KFC-P709PS) and it blows my mind that no one makes a simple ABS plastic spacer to fit a deeper tweeter. I only need about 3/4".

Why need a spacer when you can open up (cut around) the metal of the door itself with a "dremel"? Then use the OEM tweeter plastic frame to mount your aftermarket then make it look factory. Or it looks like those tweeter is big enough to cover the door panel hole.

I'd prefer not to hack up the doors to fit something like this. And the tweeter is about 1/2" too small in diameter to cover the hole but I am using the stock silver surround trim to alleviate that. I just need to find a small plastic ring to appropriately space the tweeter. Does such a piece not exist?

Sorry for such a late reply, but i had a similar problem when fitting some polk tweeters in my door. I dumbassed and thought the tweeters would fit in the same location as the stocks as well, and found out my polk tweeters were much deeper. So i went to lowes and got black abs plastic pipe, which had the same inner diameter needed for my tweeters, and made a cut out that angled my tweeters toward the listener. Right now they look crude, but it has allowed the tweeters to stay on the door panel without cutting anymore holes
